An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.
Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.
Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.
No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.
It’s no secret that we love, adore and simply fangirling over Katie McGarry. Ever since I discovered Pushing The Limits I was instantly in love with her writing and her characters. And as much as I loved the Pushing The Limits series, I was also ready for new adventures. So when Katie told us about her plans to write a Motorcycle club series I couldn’t hold my excitement!
The Reign of Terror and all these prejudices… Truth? Or not so much….?
We must first talk about the setting Katie created in the Thunder Road series. The whole series focuses on a Motorcycle Club called the Reign of Terror and if you are like me, then you have no clue about these clubs. I mean. yes I know how the “look” and of course the first club that comes into my mind where clubs like The Bandidos – but this is why I love this series so much, because it shows us how they really are, what community means for them and that they are of course not all of them criminals like you’d first think. You can clearly read between the lines how much work and research went into this book and the development of the setting! That is truly amazing. I also loved how all these pre justices are also addressed in the book and clarified and put into perspective. It also helped and was a great and smart move, that we have two POV – one from Oz (the swoon worthy bad boy from the Club) and one from Emily. So we get both sides – Oz’ inside voice and Emily prejudices!
Forced to spend time where you don’t belong…
Emily’s Dad is one of the leaders of Reign of Terror – but she didn’t grow up with him, but rather great up with her mom and step dad. (Side Note: There was a beautiful scene at the very beginning between Emily and her Step Dad that already brought me to tears!) When circumstances lead to Emily spending summer with her Dad she’s forced to get to know the family she always had but was never allowed to get to know.
Apart from this being a love story (see below! ..*swoon*) it’s also a story about family, love, belonging and that family does not always have to mean by blood. Emily learns how close these people are, how they stick together when needed and it slowly opens her eyes!
I love how we are confronted with all these ideas we have (true or not) about Motorcycle Clubs and how we experience these through Emilie’s eyes!
Falling in love… even if you soo do not want to…
Och… this love story was just again so beautiful! Star crossed lovers, who initially didn’t like each other but the more time they spend together, the more they slowly carefully fel for each other! Oz felt like he can’t fall for Emily – with her Dad being one of the leaders – but well, what can you do when love strikes? Nothing!! It was beautiful, sexy and heart warming, but I honestly also expected nothing less!
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Nowhere But Here is an amazing emotional, and heart warming kickoff into an exciting and unique new series! It uses that rough, edgy and hard-ass environment of a Motorcylc Club to talk about family, love and belonging in such a beautiful way!
Read Chapter 3 from Nowhere But Here from Oz POV
So, do you have an idea about being part of a Motorcycle Club? I haven’t – which is also why I loved how Nowhere But Here deal with all these crazy ideas I had about them!
