Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it's time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?
Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn't come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.Â
Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she's used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.
Heather:Â I think it’s safe to say that the Charley Davidson series is a favorite for Danny and me, so we both eagerly await each new installment. I preorder the hardcovers and Danny downloads the audiobooks, then we devour them and we can’t wait to do these reviews together.
Danny:Â YES yes YES! Love this series so much! I pre-order the audiobooks and start the minute it becomes available!!
Heather:Â Charley sure has a lot going on in this installment. Her FBI buddy wants her to look into Reyes’ kidnapping case from when he was a kid, there’s a weird dead naked old guy that’s shown up in the front seat of her Jeep, her father is acting strange and is getting ready to sail off on his own boat, the local Mob is threatening to kidnap/kill someone she loves if she can’t find someone that is in Witness Protection for them, and there’s a client that sold his soul and wants her to get it back for him. Sounds like a lot? Well, it is, but it wasn’t hard to keep everything straight. Plus, she still hasn’t said yes to Reyes’ marriage proposal from the last book!
Danny:Â There were quite a few mysteries to solve this year, but let#s focus a little on the last part: The Proposal from Reyes! It wouldn’t be Charley if she wouldn’t deal with this in her own way, which made me crack up so many times! I mean in the end Reyes is the son of satan and should she really go for it? Plus, she ben learns some more disturbing things about Reyes and the question will be is their love strong enough?
Heather:Â Charley’s bleeding heart and tendency to bend over backwards for anyone is called into question by Reyes a lot in this book. He just wants to keep her safe and sound, and I do agree with him. She’s the most important thing to this somewhat tamed version of the Prince of Hell.
Danny:Â Haha Heather I love it! Tamed Version of the Prince of Hell – but yes that is Reyes! I love his character so much and not only for it’s hotness! No, really! There are also other qualities I love about him. And you just said it, he loves Charley so fiercely and put up with her quirks like no other man would! But he fights for her, every day! And even if she pushes him away over and over, it just makes him come back stronger.
Heather: Garrett Swopes was in this book quite a bit more, and he was actually helpful and alpha male badass at the same time. We finally got to see him hard at work! I also really liked the reveal of Charley’s spirit sidekick Angel’s backstory. His origins and death were so sad, and his reasons for Charley giving his salary to his mother even though he’s dead were quite touching and sad.
Danny:Â As you already said earlier Heather, there is a lot going on in this book and yes, I also was rather heartbroken over Angels story…
Heather:Â Let’s talk Cookie and Charley working together to get Charley’s Uncle tricked into finally taking the initiative to ask Cookie out on a date. Charley’s detailed plan was quite inventive and multi-tiered, and quite frankly–bold. But I so so so so wanted Ubie and Cookie to finally get together!
Danny:Â That was fanfreaking hilarious!!!! I adore Cookie and Charley wanted her together with her uncle so badly that she made this … somewhat outrageous plan!
Heather:Â And oh, what a cliffhanger. Darynda Jones, you’ve outdone yourself this time. With Reyes’ marriage proposal last book, and now this one, I can’t wait to see how Charley and Reyes take this news.
Danny:Â Don’t remind me of this!!! The only good thing is that Darynda Jones writes so fast that we don’t have to wait for another year to read the next one!
Bottom Line:Â Sixth Grave On the Edge is another solid installment in this paranormal series. With Charley’s compassion, wit, sarcasm, and resourcefulness, Â hanging out with Charley is like spending time with an aunt or sister that you know will embarrass you, but you’ll have one hell of a fun time anyway. Charley made some great strides character growth wise in this one, and she needs to do some growing up in preparation for the next book.

Gah to cliffies! Still, if I’m invested in a series, I can’t help but be excited about the next book. And Reyes…holy cow, that boy is sex on a stick! These books are so adorable and fun. Loved the joint fangirling!

Reyes is definitely hot, Mary! This book was on fire in several spots, and I totally agree that this series is so much fun. I’m just glad that we just have to wait until October for the next book. It’s not so long 🙂
