Murder, abductions, and forbidden romance abound in this thrilling sequel to Sara B. Larson's acclaimed YA debut, DEFY.
Alexa remains by the newly crowned King Damian’s side as his guard, ever committed to helping him rebuild Antion and reclaim the hope of Antion's people, despite continuing to harbor a secret love for him. However, when another threat to Damian and his kingdom emerges, and blame is cast on their newly forged allies from Blevon, Alexa knows things are not what they seem. With the fate of her nation hanging in the balance once again, will Alexa be able to protect her king and uncover the true enemy -- before it's too late?
Defy was one of my favourite books last year and I couldn’t possibly be any more excited about picking up the sequel. Even though sequels are often a hit or miss and I’m often enough scared to picked up a second book, Ignite delivered completely and again managed to amaze me!
Being a Prince is not easy, but being King takes the stakes even higher!
In Defy Alexa was a disguised as a boy, yet the Prince always looked through her disguise and fell deeply in love with her. By the end of Defy Alexa not only rescued the kingdom but also the Prince, who now would be king! So, we start of in Ignite with everyone finally knowing that Alexa is a girl – but also with a Prince who has now the duty of a King. But eliminating one threat doesn’t mean that there are new ones coming and soon the kingdom has again to face an impossible threat that could cost them everything!
I was excited to find this new threat being really dangerous and at some points it looked like they would never ever get out of it alive. Â Clearly, Defy comes yet again with a truly thrilling plot that kept me complete on edge the whole time!
When you have to put your duty before your heart….
Alex is this kind of heroine I adore and love – she’s incredible strong, kick ass and amazing. But, also tempts to be quite stubborn to the point where I wanted to scream at her for finally admitting her true feelings for Damian the now-King! But that would not be Alexa, she thinks she’s not the right Queen for him, so she hides her feelings, pushes poor Damian away and focuses on keeping him and the kingdom save. And there is another thing I admire about her – how loyal she was in protecting Damian and the Kingdom, one couldn’t ask for someone more strong and more loyal – even if it means that Alexa herself is completely heartbroken! Still, this tension made this Page-Turner even more exciting, yet also frustrating!
The emotions are running high in this instalment and I couldn’t ask for more!

Bottom Line
Ignite by Sara B. Larson is the second instalment of the amazing DEFY Trilogy and delivers an incredible sophomore story where readers couldn’t possible ask for more amazement. It’s filled with love, romance and heartbreak but also our heroes have to face impossible and cleverly constructed dangers that altogether create an outstandingly brilliant follow-up to Defy! And if you haven’t yet read Defy – well, what are you waiting for!
