One of the books that completely took me by surprise and totally blew me away was Burning Sky, an epic YA Fantasy that was just that, EPIC! So, I’m thrilled to host the Blog Tour for the sequel here today :Â The Perilous Sea and the two main characters and … love birds Titus the Prince and Iolanthe the epic Elemental Mage! I had Titus already on the blog last year, he’s such an amazing character!
Thanks to Rachel and Jamie from Rockstar Book Tours for organising this awesome tour!Â
So please welcome Iolanthe and Titus at the Bewitched Bookworms
Hey you two – It’s been quite turbulent for you two in Burning Sky, but it’s getting even rougher in The Perilous Sea.
Q: Titus, when you discovered that your destiny was tightly intertwined with Iolanthe’s, what did you think? I mean, it could have been anyone who would be the next grand elemental mage and then comes Iolanthe..
Titus: I was shocked that the elemental mage for whom I’d been waiting turned out to be a girl. For years my plan had been to conceal my partner-to-be at the nonmage boarding school for boys that I attend. The appearance of a girl at first invalidated that plan completely, until Iolanthe argued that she is capable of passing for a boy.
Q: Iolanthe, I remember you were not happy at first when you realized what Titus wants from you, and it took you a while to come to terms with your own part in this story. What convinced you in the end?
Iolanthe: Oh, I was quite terrified—and outraged, too, if I may be completely honest—that His Highness wanted me to sacrifice myself to help him bring down the Bane. I am no great heroine. I just wanted to take my qualifying exams in peace so I can some day attend the Conservatory of Magical Arts and Sciences and then become a professor.
But then I began to see outside the bubble of my own life and perceive what was truly going on. And it didn’t seem right to be content to just hide and keep myself safe when I could make a difference in the world.
Â
Q: Iolanthe, it seems like playing a boy comes easy for you, what is it that you like so much about this disguise?
Iolanthe: My guardian taught at a boys’ school for some time in the Domain. So I had plenty of opportunities to observe how boys interact. Most of the fun in pretending to be a boy comes from enjoying the company of this particular group of boys, who are interesting and lovely people. It is freeing to get to know them and live among them without our friendship being complicated by anyone’s preconceptions of what a girl could or could not or should or should not be. Here I am truly just one of the boys.
Q: As close as you two are at the end of Burning Sky, we will see you see emotionally separated in The Perilous Sea, how much did it hurt when Titus came to this conclusions-we-are-not-talking-about?
Iolanthe:Like a knife in the heart.
Titus: It shattered me. I thought I would never be all right again.Â
Q: Iolanthe, if you’d be given the choice, would you rather not be such a talented elemental mage? And Titus, how about being a Prince, would you rather be someone else?
Iolanthe: Hmm, hard question. I have always enjoyed being an elemental mage—it’s just so much fun.
Titus: No doubt about it—I would rather be anyone else. But then I would not have met Iolanthe. And that I would not give up for anything.
Q: If you both could tease us a little about what’s to come in The Perilous Sea, what would a tweet look like? A Tweet means, you have to say it in 140 words – and you don’t have to understand this, just play alongJ
Iolanthe: Girl and boy wake up in the Sahara Desert, with no idea who they are or how they got there. No past. No future. Only danger—and each other.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?Â
Iolanthe: In this book, we fall in love again—for the first time. And it’s absolute wonderful!

After spending the summer away from each other, Titus and Iolanthe (still disguised as Archer Fairfax) are eager to return to Eton College to resume their training to fight the Bane. Although no longer bound to Titus by a blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny—especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.
Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that makes him question everything he previously believed about their mission. Faced with this devastating realization, Iolanthe is forced to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother’s prophecies—and forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.
