Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.
Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.
Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.
But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.
Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.
Hot Aliens coming openly to live with us? So a mixed Contemporary Love Story mixed with otherworldly awesomeness? Add in the amazingly cute cover and I was hooked, could barely hold my excitement back when I got a Review Copy!
Aliens Among Us – Good or Bad Thing?
I absolutely loved already the story set up. Aliens are out in the open, but still living on their own planet and in order to get humans and L’eihr’s to get to know each other better, the government created an exchange program. Hoping for a new understanding both for the L’eihrs but also for the humans who of course feel threatened a little bit. So when the first L’eihrs arrive and one is going to live with Cara and going to school with her both have to learn what it means to be human or alien…. and that not everyone is truly excited about this. There is a lot of hate coming Cara’s and the L’eihrs way, that is truly hateful and filled with pre justice.
When you have to look deep into the soul
L’eihrs are super smart, brilliant but cold and lack human emotions and Alelyx is no exception. Their superior intellect is also something most humans feel threatened by and their coldness is definitely not helping much. But Cara is determined to make the best out it, seeing it as her change to attand the college of her dreams. But Cara is more than just her wish to go to College, she’s a wonderfully strong, loyal and compassionate girl who is not letting prejustices against the aliens cloud her own mind. She’s determined to get to know Aelyx even though he’s weird and brutally cold sometimes.
She tries to look into his soul and tries to find the trigger that will finally force some human emotions into him. I loved this about her so so much! I also loved her loyalty even though Aelyx didn’t make it easy for Cara – but she’s such a strong-willed and stubborn girl that she never gave up.
For instance: Since Aelxy doesn’t like the spicy human food, Cara tried to cook everyday something new full of hope to find something he likes. This is just a small example, but I found it super damn cute!
Low Sweet Romance, A Love build of trust and Passion
The romance was so so so damn cute. It was super slow and it took both of them a long time to trust each other and for them to admit having actual real feelings for each other that go beyond friendship. Seriously, it was one of the best aspects of the story and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.. Especially seeing Aelyx developing very slowly human emotions and then also realising what love feels like was just beautiful. There were some super tender, sweet loving moments that I read over and over, they were so wonderful, touching and moving.
Danger, Twists and an incredible Ending
Apart from the wonderful romance, the plot itself was great. Filled with lots of twists that we didn’t see coming and filled with danger we didn’t know to expected when the story begun. Suddenly it’s not just a story of love between an Alien and a Human – but everything is a stakes. The ending will leave us with desperate wishes to hold the sequel already in our hands.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Alienated by Melissa Landers is an outstanding mesmerizing debut, filled with the sweetest most touching romance and a kick-ass plot, that entails a dramatic storyline that slowly builds up to a shocking ending. Warm, touching moments full of love and the discovery of human emotions meets an otherworldly set up that lovers of both Scifi themed books and romance lovers enthusiasts will devour!
So how does this sounds friends? Excited like me about books with Aliens? Any books like Alienated that you read or looking forward reading this year?

I almost passed this one up, because it sounded like it could easily be too cliche, but after reading some reviews, I really wish I had been approved for it on NG! I’ll just have to wait till it comes out in February 🙂 I’m so glad to hear the romance is a slow build. I’m getting sick of insta-love in these otherwise fantastic sci-fis and fantasies!
