With power comes enemies. Lots of them.
Hunter Garrity just wants to be left alone. He’s learned the hard way that his unusual abilities come at a price. And he can’t seem to afford any allies.
He’s up to his neck in hostiles. His grandfather, spoiling for a fight. The Merrick brothers, who think he ratted them out. Calla, the scheming psycho who wants to use him as bait.
Then there’s Kate Sullivan, the new girl at school. She’s not hostile. She’s bold. Funny. Hot. But she’s got an agenda, too.
With supposedly secret powers rippling to the surface everywhere around him, Hunter knows something ugly is about to go down. But finding out what means he’ll have to find someone he can trust…
Well, you do know this boy-wonder series called the Elementals? If not.. you either lived under a rock or … I don’t know what else. In any case Spirit is the third book in this series of awesome and tells Hunter’s story. (Don’t know him? Go and read the other books! Now!)
Will Hunter rock my world?
I admit, I was a little afraid about Hunters story. I feel very conflicted about Hunter as he showed a lit of different faces in the last books. I loved him, then hated him then loved him again. Moreover, he played rather big role in the last book Spark and again Hunter left us feeling very conflicted.
Also, I was a little scared after reading Spark because Spark left me speechless with how emotional and phenomenal this story was. Brigid Kemmerer definitely out did herself and I wondered if she could do it again…
Fear not Danny! Brigid Kemmerer is a genius and won’t ever disappoint you!
Spirit was phenomenal! Hunters story brought me to tears and most definitely managed to reach me on a emotional level in the same way I emotionally connected with Spark. Hunter is very angry but at the same time he is such a sad and lonely boy who has no one who cares for him. At least that is what it feels for him and … it broke my heart. Yes, Hunters story broke my little heart.
He is so stuborn and hates to ask for help, even more he’s does not trust other people even though The Merrick boys told him over and over that he has to trust them. Just Hunter can’t. It’s his nature and The Merrick boys tried everything to help him, even though he constantly pushes everyone away!
Yeah, that is what Hunter is pretty good at. Pushing emotions and people away. I wanted to scream to often “Damn Boy, just trust them already”
Twist, Turns *gasps-moments* & Romance!
However I must say that especially these conflicting emotions of this broken boy stirred heavily at my heart ! Even more, this story also made me gasp and surprised the hell out of me. Especially something toward the end totally shocked me to no end. I didn’t expect Brigid going there.. but .. she did and I kind of love her for this. ( I know .. it’s crazy…)
An Elementals Story wouldn’t be complete without a girl and some romance. And of course it was all chemistry and sizzling and totally hot and sweet at the same time. Truly, Hunter was hot but.. maybe Kate was even hotter. Together, they made an interesting match, especially considering that they both had similar scars they both carried around. Still, they somehow matched and it was beautiful to see Hunter opening up even a little. However, I must say that I didn’t love Kate completely, not as much as the other Gabriel’s girl Layne.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Spirit was heartbreaking emotional and comes with a twist that will make your eyed pop out as you won’t believe what you are reading here. Hunter is broken and such a sad boy inside that it was stirring at my heart rather heavily. And… I am absolutely not done yet with Hunters story. Brigid made me fall for this boy even though I didn’t expect to do so and now I need more!!

How funny that we both posted our reviews of this awesome book on the same day! I agree with all of your thoughts. And, yes, that ending was so surprising! I had to read that part twice because I thought I had misinterpreted something! But, I think i’m glad it all played out like that. Of course there wouldn’t be kittens and rainbows for our Hunter. I’m now firmly and completely in love with him though.

I just love that name “Hunter”. And, usually, any character with that name is fantastic. This Hunter sounds like he lives up to his name, despite his incredibly untrusting nature (those people always make me want to shake them — come on, already! TRUST, DARN IT!!).

Ahhhh Danny! I had the same fear about this book, I just didn’t have the same drive to read more about Hunter that I did about Gabriel (LOVE HIM!), but I feel better after reading your review. If you loved Hunter, I know I will too. And now of course I have to know what Brigid “went there” with at the end. SO EXCITED!

I’m a little conflicted about this book, honestly. I LOVED Spark. Like, loved. It was one of my favorite reads of 2012. So when I got this one on NetGalley, I freaked out. But I got about 30% of the way through it, and I put it aside. It just doesn’t have the same magic for me. I don’t know. It’s not bad! I guess I just missed a lot of the Merrick brother drama. They’re in the book, but Hunter is an outsider, and it was harder to get a lot of that family dynamic with him as a narrator. I don’t know. Not my favorite. But I still want to continue with the series.
