For fans of Gone Girl, I Hunt Killers, and TV's How to Get Away with Murder.

Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell forged permission slips and cover stories to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts Liars, Inc. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.

Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? In a story that Kirkus Reviews called "Captivating to the very end," Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters.

Liars, Inc. promised to be an thrilling Young Adult Mystery – which I always enjoy reading. So I was pretty excited about this book and even more excited that Paula Stokes is also part of the big Love Letter Event and shared a Love Letter from Parvati to Max.

Unlike and so intriguing characters!

Max, Parvati and Preston are an unlike pair of friends, as they are very different from each other, yet they are so close! Their friendship and relationship was the driving force of the story and was up for many surprises and twists. Parvati and Preston both come from wealthy parents, while Max is the orphan who does have some loving foster parents but not so much money. They have been friends for a long time, even before Parvati and Max fell in love with each other, yet the friendship stayed strong. Or so they thought… When they decide together to found “Liar’s Inc” things very fast spiral out of control when Preston is gone missing and Max is the prime suspect! And.. of course, instead of coming clean with Liars, Inc Max does not speak up and things get worse even faster.

A thrilling, twisty YA Mystery!

The plot was fantastically twisted! There were so so many twists and turns that kept my head spinning trying to figure out what’s happening here! And poor Max was in the middle and didn’t know what’s happening to him. Also, he has to face some uncomfortable truces along the way. Parvati was also an interesting character and also was up for a few surprises I didn’t see coming at all. I really do not want to spoil anything about the plot, as with was so masterfully developed. But clearly, Liars, Inc was a true page turner with some interesting characters and an exciting plot! Like usual with plots like this, I feel like if they would have talked to someone instead of hiding the truth things could have been resolved a little faster, but then again – this would mean less excitement. 🙂

Bottom Line

Liars, Inc. by Paula Stokes was a thrilling and twisty Young Adult mystery that kept my head spinning. Besides the exciting mystery, there was also nicely developed underlying themes such as friendship and family which added an emotional layer that completed the story wonderfully!
