I’m sure you already heard about this amazing new Young Adult Fantasy series! Heather already reviewed The Kiss of Deception and said it was “absolutely fabulous” . When I read a few weeks ago, I was completely blown away by how much I loved it!
Needless to say, we are thrilled to host Mary Pearson today on the blog with her recipe for swoon worthy romance! The romance in The Kiss of Deception was so so freaking amazing!
So please welcome Mary E.Pearson with…
Seven Ingredients I Love Seeing in a Swoon Worthy Romance
- Chemistry
It’s not just about looks, or hormones, or that they both like coconut macaroons. There has to be a certain magic between the two characters that is irresistible.
- Friction
But of course they can and do tick, annoy, and infuriate each other too. They are not made from exactly the same mold which is what keeps things interesting.
- Near misses
Timing is everything and sometimes it seems like they are forever ships passing in the night. Come on you two, get it together.
- Independence
They both have their own goals, their own needs, their own lives and motivations. They are interesting on their own without each other, but boy put them together and they are unstoppable.
- Obstacles
It might be friends, family, that “other” person, or entire kingdoms, but rarely is love smooth sailing from the get go. Things get in the way.
- Doubt
They just might not make it. Seriously, it would be a shame. As a reader, I worry that the obstacles might win. They might end up with the wrong person, or alone, or dead, or . . . so much could go wrong!
- The Kiss
Or many. It make take a while, but the wait is so worth it. Whether it lasts for only a few words, a few sentences, or a few pages, at some point, even if momentary, love wins.

On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. hhhmmmm in a swoon-worthy romance I look for chemistry most definitely. I also like near-happenings. Like something that builds the tension. Something like near kisses, but something ends up interrupting them which makes you frustrated as the reader. That and I do like partial love/hate romances too. Thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway!
I love your blog! 🙂

For me it’s the anticipation of that first encounter that makes a book swoon-worthy! You know what I mean…that feeling that makes your tummy drop and your head spin!

On, YES to all these! There has to be the tension and the kiss and the friction and the chemistry…I’m exhausted thinking about it!

Love this list!!! Though I don’t love when the obstacle between two people is another person, but everything else… YES PLEASE! Love characters who are independent but find in the other person something they can rely on to hold them up when they need it. I so adored this book and can’t wait to see what happens next:)

Nothing makes me fall in love with a couple more than moments where they can just be silly and soft with each other. It’s great if there’s tension and all, but I like to see things balanced out with a little bit of comfort and humor. And I most definitely agree with #4.

thanks for such a fun post! The only thing I’d have to add would be either witty banter or “meet cute” moment 🙂

I think it would be the chemistry between the characters!! As long as it’s not insta-love and the characters take time to develop a relationship, I’m all for it!!
I just started my book blog and would love to meet some bloggers!! Please visit me if you have some time, thanks!

Yes, I love this! I think one of my favorite aspects (besides the kiss, of course) is the friction/ or tension between two characters. Building up the chemistry between them. The Kiss of Deception was certainly swoon-worthy. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Of course some humor! No one likes a too serious relationship. They need to be able to play around with each other.

Definitely like the teaser style quality your review is in this time around! look forward to reading this one.

I love romances where I can practically feel the chemistry radiating off the page. Flirting, whether it’s sweet and innocent or cheek-reddening, is an absolute must!

The first meeting is always the best part for me! It can be a variety of different things but that is the moment when everything starts to truly happen

I was swooning just reading this post! Although I’m not a fan when an obstacle is another person, I love the tension of a building romance. I also like that she mentioned independence too. Great post!

Ingredients for a swoonworthy romance, first, no insta-love! There has to be fireworks between the couple, tons of tension and ultimately, they have to really know and like each other. Adding massive dollops of humor and sarcasm don’t hurt either!

Chemistry is a MUST for me to enjoy the couple! Tension is great, too. And they have to be able to bring on the feels. 🙂 Loved the post!

I love relationships that grow over time! Tension, chemistry. And for me, I love a building friendship first. I dislike insta-love!

Slow burn relationships! Hate to love or friends to lovers are my favorites. And for the couple to have realistic issues that make them grow closer and stronger as a pair 🙂

Chemistry is probably the biggest thing for me. It’s not just when they’re getting along and they have similar personalities or interests, but also when they’re butting heads. I love seeing the tension!

Believability, lack of mary-sue qualities, and a slow burn. 😉

I absolutely loved this book! Such a classic… and the plot twist, man! Mary E. Pearson is so very talented.

The most important swoon factor to me is that he has to be funny.

First, strong female character. I cannot stand a whiny, Oh-I-cannot-do-for-myself-female in books! They piss me off!Plus gotta not necessarily have a triangle, but there cannot be this whole I’m gonna immediately fsall into your arms thing…

Banter. I love me some witty banter 🙂
