Kari plunges into the world of espionage on a mission to save her parents while trying to impress the guy she’s been in love with forever.
When sixteen-year-old Kari’s dad sends her an unexpected text, she and her brother immediately go into hiding. Because when your parents are superspies and your dad declares a Code Black, it can only mean something bad. Very bad.
Kari soon discovers that her parents have been disavowed and declared traitors, and she’s determined to clear their names. Breaking into the Agency seems like a reasonable plan, especially with the help of a team that includes her longtime crush, Luke, as well as her two best friends—an expert hacker with attitude and a master martial artist—and Luke’s popular, vindictive twin sister. Oh, and a new guy, who’s as cute as he is complicated...
Read the blurb and tell me that this sounds just like full of fun and action! This is what I expected and why I was excited opening the first page!
Espionage – Spys and some Teens playing with high cards!
Coming right to the point, the plot was fast paced and awesome! When Kari’s parents are accused of being traitors a series of things are set  into action that Kari was trained to follow. Kari always knew her parents are spys and they trained Kari and her cute little brother to follow these rules in oder of emergency. I loved the explosive beginning and Kari was handling everything with so much strength, spark and determination that we could simply admire her and cheer for her!
But when her parents remain hidden Kari realizes that she cannot handle this situation all on her own and recruits her awesome friends to help her!
Outstanding, supporting characters made of win!
Besides the thrilling plot line, I especially loved the cast of characters! Kat Carlton creates a set of unique, spunky characters that I could talk about forever. Starting with Kari’s little genius brother – I loved this boy so much! He was a total smart ass even though he was just 7 – but he was so sweet and geeky and a total nerd.
Then there is Kari’s best friend, who is pat fashion queen  with Chanel glasses and part Super Geek! Loved her so freaking much and she was fabulous with all her money and all this geekiness that made her truly stand out!
Boys and some love in dangerous circumstances?
In addition to our two brainiacs we also have two boys… Luke is the ultimate all-american boy. Handsome, rich (his father is the director of the Agency) and just the nice boy. Quite frankly, Luke didn’t stand out. but it was also very hard with this amazing other characters who were much more colorful. He as just that .. nice and I didn’t get Kari’s obsession with this boy. But maybe it was just the normalcy she was craving..
On the other hand we have mysterious Evan with the sexy british accent and the annoying (but… very endearing) attitude. He was much more to my liking and fitted right into the oustading cast of character. We never knew if Evan was freind or foe, if he was playing us or if he’s sincere. He gave us another mystery to solve besides Kari’s missing parents!
Explosive Surprising Ending full of YEAH! and where to we go from here?
The ending was full of twist and turns I soooo didn’t see coming and I must admire Kat Carlton’s bravery with where she went with this story. As the romance part was clearly lacking for my licking I am actually looking forward seeing where we go from here. There are so many exciting premises in these last pages that I might even hope for a different love and romance here!
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Two Lies and a Spy by Kat Carlton was action packed and wonderfully packed with such a fabolous cast of characters. Not only was the whole story entertaining, the characters clearly stood out and made this story so well rounded and fun! I personally cannot wait for the next book and I’m so excited to see the direction this series is going!

I started to get into kids’ spy stories. I haven’t been read Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series in years. The new Kids’ spy stories are like revisiting those days back then.

I’ve read very few spy-type stories, but this sounds like a lot of fun! I’m always up for a book with adventure. 🙂

I do love a good thriller with spies! And, even though the romance wasn’t quite enough for you (I know how you lurve your romance, girl!), as long as the rest of the story rollicked along, I think I’m going to have to check it out!
