synopsis from goodreads
Ari can’t help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can’t be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.
Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it’s impossible to protect herself when she doesn’t know what she’s running from or why she is being pursued. She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very…different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her.
Ari won’t stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed.
One word describes this book perfectly : Unique!
Often patterns, story lines and stereotypes come back in new books, but to find something truly and extremely unique is rare.
The Setting: New Orleans is a city ruled by some supernatural creatures and secluded from the rest of the US. The city is full of supernatural creatures and the envireoment and the city is described in a truly wonderful way. Keaton has a way to let you feel this new city!
Supernaturals: We have all you can imagine, Vampires, Were’s, Witches, Vodoo’s but we have more and this is what makes this story stand out so much. Keaton mixed common paranormal with Greek Mythology. Yep! You read this right, you will meet some old creatures, gods and demigods you know from old greek mythology. I absolutely love this twist and this is what truly defines this novel and makes it so extremely stand out among the paranormal YA books.
Ari – heroine par excellence: I loved Ari and I loved the most how she was described with her weird hair color and eye color she always stands out and never felt right. She also has no clue who she really is, and this is what she has to find out and … the truth is so shocking!
We follow Ari on her journey to New Orleans (or New 2) where she tries to find out about her real mother and more about herself. She learns to deal with all the supernaturals that rule the city and she makes new friends. Kids, that are weird just like herself.
Apparently, some people already know what’s up with Ari and everyone just wants to get rid of her or tries to have her as a loyal ally. And I promise you, the truth about Ari is shocking and the ending will leave you hanging waiting desperately for the next book.
..for me was the super mega rushed relationship with Sebastian. He’s super hot and it was clear that those two would fall in love but… it would have been ok to let them have a bit more time to get there. It felt for me like: Meet-Kiss-Soulmate. I love a building tension and I love when this tension is released in a wonderful passionate kiss.

I really liked the way Keaton combines fantasy with ancient Greek myths, very new style! I wasn't that pleased with Ari's + Sebastian's relationship either, I loved that there were feelings, but after ONE SINGLE DAY?! They need more time to develop something serious and believable that makes us love them more. Well, but there will be 2nd book, with hopefully many many pages to go deeper into their relationship!

I think that super fast relationship would bug me. I'm with you, I like to be teased and then have it all come together with *that* kiss. I do like the mix of a bunch of paranormal creatures and Greek gods though. You also have me very curious about the main character's secret.
