My Thoughts:
After a few months of relative quiet according to Cat, it’s time for their lives to be put in danger again and upturned. Cat learns from her Uncle Don’s ghost that her former government team has gone missing, so she and her master vampire husband Bones decide to get to the bottom of their disappearance. Â But as the fight their way closer to Cat’s nemesis, evil CIA-agent Madigan–whose only goal is to recapture Cat to perform more twisted experiments on her to perfect his research projects–they risk everything in their fight to the death to learn the truth about his research, and who is backing the projects.
Up From the Grave is the final novel in the Night Huntress series, and opening the book was a little bittersweet knowing that this would be the final one focusing on Cat and Bones. Jeaniene Frost pulls out all of the characters we’ve grown to love over the span of seven books and gives them a place in this final installment, from Ian, Spade and Denise, Mencheres and Kira, Vlad and Leila, to some of the smaller secondary characters that have appeared over the course of the books. Â It was nice to see some of these characters stick around for most of the book, like Ian, but a few of them just popped in and out without much purpose.
Cat is full-on bad ass in a good portion of this book, so much so that she doesn’t give Bones’ strategic wishes much thought at times. Of course that leads to fights, and a very large heart-stopping twist about a third of the way through the book. Since I forgot about one of Bones’ abilities, I was a bit worried, but the fighting continued. And speaking of Bones’ abilities, his control and powers have increased into this book. I was wowed by how far he’s come! This book had a few romantic scenes between Cat and Bones, and that was enough to get the romance lovers by.
I give Up From the Grave a four out of five. With heart-pounding fight scenes throughout the book, you finally get answers to some lingering questions in this series. The big twist two-thirds of the way through this book was a bit predictable, and the following reactions from Cat and Bones were uncharacteristic of what I would have expected from them. Overall, this is a solid series ender that concludes on a decently wrapped up note.

Always so hard when a series you love ends and you have to say goodbye to a couple that you’ve followed so long. I’ve only read a couple of these but I know Cat & Bones bring on all the feels — which means I need to just do the whole series!

For some reason I thought this series had already ended. I read the first couple of books and really enjoyed them. I’m glad that this ended up nicely for you, Heather.

I’m a big fan of this series as well. I totally agree that the big twist was predictable, but overall it was still a good book. Great review! 🙂

I think I read the first book in this series and got distracted by other books and never went back. I’ve been meaning to start again and I’m not surprised by how much I’ve missed.
