One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.
This one was one of my most anticipated books last year! I love YA Paranormal Romance and I love Jennifer L.Armentrout. She’s perfect in creating the most awesome swoon worthy boys in Literature, that I knew this was going to be awesome!
Demons, Gargoyles and a Fantastic World!
The world created for The Dark Elements is just perfect for the Paranormal Lover. It mixes the known Demon basics with a new twist in form of The Wardens who are nothing less than Gargoyles here to protect humanity from the bad and evil. The world actually knows about the Gargoyles, but they have yet to know about the Demon part. The world Jennifer created her is both exciting with a wonderful mix of the common demon themed with the unique twist of the Gargoyles!
The story centers around Layla and where she truly comes from. We are introduced in demonic lore and a war against humanity is about to start with Layla being suddenly in the middle of all this..
Layla – lonely and desperate to fight her demonic site
Layla’s story is kind of heartbreaking. Layla is very unique and part demon – part Gargoyle and is raised by The Wardens (Gargoyles), however she never fit completely in as many Gargoyles hate her demon part and are repulsed and afraid of her. However, Layla would love nothing more than to fit in and help the Gargogoyles in their fight against demons. Her only saving grace is Zayne the Gargoyle boy she grew up with and against all odds loves her like a real sister and always protects and defends her. But as much as Zayne tries, Layla never truly belongs and most of the other Gargoyles are repulsed by her demonic site.
The Demonic Hott Mess that is Roth
Holy Swoon my friends! As I hoped, Jennifer created a boy that will make us swoon over. As soon as Roth enters the picture, he captures our attention with his snarky, overly confident and arrogant attitude. But, there is so much more to this Demon as he fights for Layla’s attention and instead of harming her, actually rescues from other demons that suddenly seem to hunt down Layla. Sure enough he has his own agenda and we are wondering if he will turn our truly evil or actually is one of these grey zone evil boys that are just more exciting and thrilling than any other boy.
Sizzling Chemistry and Holy Hottness!
The chemistry between Layla and Roth is sizzling hot and adds the level of sexiness that we crave when picking up a paranormal romance. And as much as Layla fight her attraction, when Roth proves over and over that he seems (!!) to want her no harm, we also begin falling and rooting for them. But, then there is also Zayne with his utter hotness and his protectiveness of Layla.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout introduces us to a world full of demons and an exciting new twist that introduces hot sexy Gargoyles to the picture. The story is thrilling , fast paced and exciting leaving nothing out – action, love and heartbreak will raise our emotions and quicken our pulse. Roth is the boy that will steal not only Laylas heart but also easily ours and explores grey zones between good and evil in an exciting way!
Are you as excited as I am about this new amazing series from Jennifer???

Back to commenting! It’s taken me a full week to get over my jet lag. And then I spent all of today cleaning up my basement bathroom. The toilet exploded last night. Ugh. I’m glad I don’t own this house because I think the main plumbing line will need to be replaced.
I’m still kicking myself that I haven’t read anything by Jennifer yet. Do you think this is a good one to start with or that I should start with some of her older series?
