Synopsis from goodreads
There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.
Review
I’m sure some of you are blinking, wondering who is left out there who hasn’t delved into this series. Well, dear reader, I am that slow poke. I know the bookworms have told of their love of this book and the others already out in the series, but at least I’ve finally started.
And am I ever happy I have!
As I already knew a bit about this book from the reviews of others, I wasn’t surprised that Daniel was the good guy, or that his lack of interest was covering up his intense love for Luce. Still, even with foreknowledge of some of the elements of this story, I truly enjoyed falling in love with our fair couple. I also enjoyed meeting the other characters that populate the world at Sword and Cross and am definitely looking forward to learning more about them.
What I found most compelling about the love story between Luce and Daniel was the eternal aspect of it. There’s something completely fascinating about a love that can last throughout the ages, one that can stand up to all of the obstacles this love has stood against, and yet remain so deeply engrained. The love Daniel feels for Luce and the burdens he bears (of which I think I’ve only scratched the surface of) are so profound, I did find myself sighing on more than one occasion.
Bottom Line
If you haven’t started this angelic series and you’re looking for an aching romance to warm up your winter nights, you’ll definitely want to check Fallen out!
Final Notes
I do love a series. It’s fascinating to see characters develop, grow and challenge one another and the reader. And I’m happy to have started this nearly completed series! I’m going to be listening my way through the remaining two books, Torment and Passion slowly so that by the time Rapture releases this summer, I won’t have been waiting too long.
And to help me, and all the other passionate fans of this series, along in our wait: Lauren Kate has recently released a series of short stories set in Luce and Daniel’s world:
And if getting more of Luce and Daniel weren’t enough, this set of stories is set in the Middle Ages: knights, courtly manners, love…. *sigh*!
So I know where I’m going to go when I need my romance fix. Where are you getting yours? Leave it in the comments, because honestly, who can get enough romance???
Now go and get lost…in a book!

{swoon} isn't Daniel dreamy? I have the first two book and just bought Fallen in Love yesterday, forgetting that I didn't have the 3rd book either, eek! Going back tomorrow to get that one too, lol! I read the first two last year, it's time to re-read and fall in love all over again so I can catch up in time for the 4th! Can't wait!!!
Thanks for the review and sweet reminder of what a great love story this really is 🙂

Thanks, Elodie! I do admit the second book has been a bit tougher to get into, but I'm going to give it a shot because I have heard that PASSION is WELL worth it.

Oh, Pushy, you know you aren't the only Bookworm who hasn't read these yet. I buy these as they come out, but I'm just waiting for this series to be complete before I take the plunge. I'm reading too many series that are WIPs and I hate waiting a year in between books. I'm glad you liked this one!

Ok, so I did it, read Fallen & Torment. I was surprised that I really enjoyed the characters and the story line of Fallen, but at the end of Torment I was wondering what was taking so long. I have put Passion on hold at the Library, so lets hope it goes better! Thanks for the suggestion!
