Welcome to the Pre-Squee, a weekly feature here at the Bookworms and at The Book Swarm. Some books, though they might not be coming out for a few months, need an early squee — we just can’t hold in our excitement about them! Sure, we’ll do full reviews closer to the release date but this feature gives us a chance to share a little bit of our love, whether it be for the story, cover, characters, or whatever. We’re quite flexible in our book love.
So today we Squee about
by Lian Tanner –
series: The Hidden Series
Previous Series: The Keepers Trilogy

‘Petrel leaned on the rail, watching the ice cave and stamping her feet for warmth. The berg came closer. That’s when she saw him. Laid out on the ice like a dead fish, with a scattering of snow covering his face. A boy, where there should have been nothing but the memory of winter. A frozen boy.’
Twelve-year-old Petrel is an outcast, the lowest of the low on the Oyster, an ancient icebreaker that has been following the same course for three hundred years. In that time, the ship’s crew has forgotten its original purpose and broken into three warring tribes. Everyone has a tribe except Petrel, whose parents committed such a terrible crime that they were thrown overboard, and their daughter ostracised.
But Petrel is a survivor. She lives in the dark corners of the ship, speaking to no one except two large grey rats, Mister Smoke and Missus Slink. Then a boy is discovered, frozen on an iceberg, and Petrel saves him, hoping he’ll be her friend. What she doesn’t know is that for the last three hundred years, the Oyster has been guarding a secret. A secret that could change the world.
A secret that the boy has been sent to destroy, along with the ship and everyone on it…
I make no secret of my insane fan-girliness over Lian Tanner.
This woman’s skills for crafting magical, mystical middle grade worlds are SERIOUS!
I absolutely ADORED the Keeper series and have been waiting and waiting for the Hidden series to come out in the states
(it’s been available in New Zealand and Australia for over a year now!!)!
Opening this book was like wrapping myself in a long loved, well worn blanked of magic
and I can’t WAIT to share all my thoughts with you guys!!

This is such a great idea for a feature, sometimes I hate having to wait until the release date to talk about books I’ve read.! And this book looks great, just added it to my TBR, can’t wait to get my hands on it! 🙂

I haven’t read anything by this author! And this one…seems like I’d need to read it in the heat of summer. I’ve had enough of winter! 🙂
