synopsis from goodreads

Riley Blackthorne just needs a chance to prove herself – and that’s exactly what the demons are counting on…

Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary Demon Trapper, Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps. The good news is, with human society seriously disrupted by economic upheaval and Lucifer increasing the number of demons in all major cities, Atlanta’s local Trappers’ Guild needs all the help they can get – even from a girl. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice, Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.

But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers’ Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart – and her life?

Absolutely refreshing new Demon tale

When I read the synopsis I wanted to read that one. The premise sounded amazing so I was happy when I got a copy! What grabbed me most was the world building here. Riley lives with her dad who is a Demon Hunter for “the Guild” and Riley desperately wants to do the same. She becomes the first female demon hunter among and yet she’s still so young! Demon’s are all over the place and the Demon Hunters  trap them and send them back to hell. But, there are different ranks of Demon’s and of course not all of them are easy to catch…. And then something bad happens that will crash Riley forever..  Also, Demon’s all around her start calling her name which is something that NEVER happened to anyone before. Very Mysterious!

Tear falling Tragedy…

This tragedy was absolutely heart breaking and my tears were falling while reading this part. I imagined what that must mean for Riley who is still so young and it’s a horrible situation. But the author did a very good job in describing her feelings and her situation, it felt very real and honest…

Riley and the …
Boy(s)

Riley’s voice is young and I have to admit something a little too young, although I truly understand her. In the end she’s still a Teenager that has to face this new reality. But, she’s also very strong and determined which I liked a lot. Then there are the boys, first to mention is Beck: He’s her fathers partner and just a few years older than Riley. But honestly I could never figure out if he’s about to fall in love with her or not… That was a bit confusing for me. Also, part of the story is written from his POV which is such a sudden change in voice, it’s absolutely great done including some use of slang…

But there is not just Beck (of course not! ..lool) there is also Simon who the complete opposite to Beck, he’s calm, nice genuine and easy to trust. He’s working for the same Guild Master as Riley (Who is a awful man btw). He was too nice for me, but exactly what Riley needed in this very situation…

Bottom Line!

This is a refreshing demon story about a girl that has to grow up fast and has to find her place in a world full of man. Brave and determined Riley who’s also young and very vulnerable has a strong voice, yet sometimes she seems just too young for my taste. Also, nothing is truly revealed about the Demon#s calling her name and the romance was a lill lacking for me..

Strong 3.5 stars tending towards 4, which means I will definitely go and read the next one! You my friends can look up Retro Demonlogy which is a prequel to Demon Trapper’s Daughter and might get you in the right mood for this book…and.. it’s freee, Wooot!

Have all a wonderful Friday and tell me,
