Day  two of an amazing week here at the Bookworms, and today with the wonderful Lynne Matson, who wrote a very (unexpected) sequel to Nil!
Nil came out last year and I remember how freaking much I fell in love with this book, and I also remember how I soooo not expected this to happen! So, when Lynne announce a sequel I was  über-excited! And today, Lynne shares some amazing secrets about Nil Unlocked that definitely will make you want to read it:)
Top Five Secrets about NIL UNLOCKED
-
A sequel was never in the original NIL plan.
When I finished NIL, I knew Charley and Thad’s story was done. Their story was complete. But Nil wouldn’t let me go; the characters wouldn’t let me go–the ones I’d left behind on Nil. I couldn’t stop wondering what became of them, especially Rives. I had this vision of him standing alone in the black rock field, with an angry grizzly bear and an earthquake in full shake. And so a week after I turned in NIL, I began writing NIL UNLOCKED.
Plus, truth be told, I already knew the answers to questions I’d left unanswered in NIL, since I’d purposely left them open to give the reader a true sense of the revolving door nature of the island: i.e. all the information that was lost with each departure and constantly needed to be re-learned with each new arrival. I knew there were more stories to tell; that NIL had simply told one. So, I decided to go for it. And I’m so glad I did.:)
-
Skye is like Charley and she isn’t.
Like Charley, Skye is a rookie in the sense of being a new arrival to Nil, but unlike Charley, Skye comes locked and loaded with inside knowledge. Skye’s uncle went to Nil in the ‘80s and his experience is crucial to the plot in NIL UNLOCKED.
-
There is a historical component to NIL UNLOCKED that weaves actual events into this fictional world.
It’s one of my favorite parts of the story—and of the entire Nil world. I can’t tell you what history is incorporated, specifically, because to divulge it here would be too spoilery, but when you read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. And this bit of world history is a HUGE part of both NIL UNLOCKED and the Nil world.
-
Nil plays a more active role in NIL UNLOCKED than in NIL.
The island as a character more developed than ever. More answers, and more questions.:) More creepy island fun.:)
-
Someone very important dies in NIL UNLOCKED and it KILLED me to write that scene.
It still kills me now. But it had to happen. I actually knew it would happen the day I sat down to write the book. I still hate it, but I knew it was right. Aren’t authors an odd bunch?:)
I hope y’all enjoy unlocking the secrets of Nil along with Skye and Rives in NIL UNLOCKED! It was a blast to write!
Thank you SO much, Danny for having me on your blog today, and for being such a HUGE part of the #NILtribe!:)
xoxo,
Lynne

On the island of Nil, the rules are set. You have exactly 365 days to escape—or you die. Rives is now the undisputed Leader of Nil City, but keeping the City united is tougher than ever.
Raiders have grown bolder, supplies are dwindling, and non-human inhabitants have taken a turn toward the deadly. New arrivals cause rifts within the City, putting the Search system at risk, and calling everything Rives knows into question. Desperate for answers, he teams up with the only other person searching for them: Skye, a new arrival with a mysterious past of her own. Soon the duo find themselves locked in a desperate race to save all the residents of Nil—and possibly destroy the island forever. But at what cost? And who will pay the price?

The concept of Nil has always interested me–a group of people locked on a island. I loved the show, Lost up to the beginning of Season 3. The survival factor (how they adapt) is the most enjoyable part to me.
