I bet you are also reading all these recaps from people going to BEA and yes I do too – every single one of them! I started with my Recap on Wednesday with my Highlights and today I figured let’s talk about *gaps* Books for a while! So instead of a classic Day by Day Recap, I decide to do it a little different this year – let’s see how that works out!
BEA is about books, right?
It’s about bringing new books to the attention of book professionals and reviewers so that they talk about them. So, I’m compiled a list of books I am extremely excited about and didn’t had on my radar before.
Luckly, I was invited to a few Publisher Events that were all absolutely fantastic and there we had the chance to talk about upcoming books! I’m going to break down my list according publishers!
Little Brown – NOVL
Little Brown hosted a Brunch in their offices for a bunch of Bloggers and it has been an absolutely amazing event! Not only was our favorite Faye there to guide us through the day, but also Editors, Publicists and Designers and all we did was talking about books! They introduced us to NOVL which is :
NOVL.
NOVL is a place for novel people who love Young Adult books. Brought to you by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
and if you haven’t visited the site yet, then please go and have a look! It offers soma amazing content for all of us YA Book Lovers!
Then, they talked about a few debut books they were absolutely excited about and they just caught us all with their enthusiasm and love for these books!
And I think this was the best about this event. Their excitement was so catching that I saw a few books from a completely different perspective and now can’t wait to read them. Truth to be told, while some of them sounded nice, I don’t know if I would have read them otherwise:
The Young World by Chris Weitz – This is a Dystopian coming from Chris Weitz. Girls, do you remember him? Director of New Moon?? When I saw his face I was thrilled! But usually, I don’t read nor care about Dystopian, but the Team from NOVL told us a little more about the book and I can’t help it but be super duper excited about this one!!
Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle – I’ve always been a sucker for loving the “star” kind of story, but this one sound so amazing that I can’t wait to open the book! Oh and the NOVL team were pitching it with images of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries Cast and when I saw that I was completely sold! Also, there is a super cool twist about this story that unfortunately we can’t share yet but I promise will make you also just as giddy as I am about this book!
We Should Hang Out Sometime by Josh Sunquist – Well, do you know Josh? I didn’t before, but I urge you to check him out. This book is special as it is some kind of memoir – and usually I never ever read memoirs, but again when he heard the ladies talking about this book I knew I needed to read it an check it out! Josh is hosting an amazing pre-sale campaign so go and check it out!
Wild Life by Fiona Wood – Fiona Wood is an Australian Auhtor and this book is supposed to be super amazing and cute and wonderful. I’m sure I would have missed out on it, haven’t I not head everyone gushing about it!
Wonder where I am? yep, I am the only one nearly completely hidden! Extra points for those who find me!
HarlequinTEEN
I just love Harlequin TEEN and their authors and editors. They hosted a Breakfast on Thursday with a fabulous line up. They had round tables and the authors, editors and publicists were changing every 5 mins to a new table.
It was an absolutely great event where we got to talk to the authors about their books and listen to editors taking excitingly about their authors! Sadly, I suck and have no pictures, so I let the book speak for themselves!
Meeting Julie Kagawa is always exciting and this year I think no one could NOT see the big marketing for Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid – who simply is adorable! Let’s get Lost sounds absolutely amazing. Road Trip Stories are always fun, but this book sounds so special! Annie Stone, his editor also couldn’t hold back her excitement. The story is told from 5 different POV’s and I’m so excited to read it! It was also so wonderful meeting Alexandra Adornetto (who is just so super pretty) and Robin Talley who’s Debut “Lies we tell ourselves” sounds so great!
Epic Reads Books from Harper Collins
Harper hosted an Epic Reads party in the evening with wine and fun, and soooo much fun it was!!! It was an amazing location and the set up was awesome! There were so many authors mingling with bloggers, editors and publicists that it was just a wonderful atmosphere! They teamed us up randomly, to play a trivia game and it was so much fun – even though we didn’t win! I was in a team with Anna Carey who was adorable! The evening was moderated by Margo and Aubrey who are just adorable! I would love having their job!!
We got a chance to talk to Michael Grant who told us about his new book “Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant” and I loved listening to him talk about his book. Seriously. I was completely sold afterwards and was happy to get a copy at BEA! Highlight of this party definitely was meeting Heather Demetrios with her husband and her publicists!
Macmillan Party
Macmillan hosted a wonderful party for Bloggers and Publicists. It was cozy and relaxing and we had time to chat and catch up. What was most impressing was when the president of macmillan (kids?) (yes) came up and told us how much they all appreciate us Bloggers. I was so touched. I still remember back a few years ago, when we were frowned upon and not taken seriously! Yeah Bloggers!!
The Highlighted Book at the Party was the Swoon Reads Book:
That sounds so cute and I am truly excited to read it!
You can find some pictures I took at the events in my Post “Highlights of BEA” – here I wanted to focus more on the books I got and got overly excited about!!
Other Books I got at BEA I’m super excited about and maybe would move have read if not for all the talk about books and excitement during BEA
So that’s it for today!! I sill would love to talk about BookCon in one post, but I keep pushing it and pushing it. But, my friend Mary wrote a fantastic post about BookCon – Hell on Earth or Saving Grace?
Let me know if some of the books on my list might also be on on your lists and which ones you would have pushed away and might consider now?
I love when talking about books with other like minded people – so I kept throwing Exquisite Captive at everyone who would listen, which book is on your mind right now and that you’d want everyone to read?

That list looks awesome. This is the 2nd year I miss BEA, last year I bought ticket and couldnt make it either. I am torn between my love for books and my vacation that always fall on that weekend when BEA is in town. Hopefully i’ll compensate by reading some of those books you listed! Thanks for sharing!

I’m pretty excited for all three Swoon Reads books, but particularly the one you mentioned. I read the excerpt for it and thought it sounded really cute, even though I don’t usually read a lot of contemporaries.

YES! I kind of feel like LB won the BEA jackpot when it came to books. All pubs have some fantastic ones coming up and I’m resisting reading them all so early (as most come out November or later) to catch up with my other reads but it’s HARD (and I’ve already read two BEA books…couldn’t resist).

So I was standing right by you in that picture from NOVL and still couldn’t find you! It took me forever but then I saw your adorable little face peeking out:) I had so much fun attending these events with you, this year was just amazing. It never ceases to feel surreal attending these publisher parties and lunches, I’m just so honored to be there. And to be there with one of my favorite people in the whole world:)

I love this! Great idea to post what books you’re excited about reading from BEA. I really loved that we got to hear from LB staff what they were excited about at the NOVL brunch. That was one of my favorite events. I also loved getting to talk to authors/publicists directly at the Harlequin Breakfast. Actually, all these events were loads of fun! And many of these books I cannot wait to read as well.

I want to comment on every book you’ve mentioned, but I feel like that would take forever. Instead I’ll just say that all of these books sound AMAZING! I heard of a few of these titles, but it’s always so exciting to learn about new books coming out. Thanks so much for sharing!

The Young World, Talon, Lies We Tell Ourselves, Ghost House, Exquisite Captive, Conversion and Compulsion are the ones out of these I am most excited about. I missed out on Exquisite Captive and Conversion though but hopefully I can get my paws on both of them soon! Great bookish recap ^^
