It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.
Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.
Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

A timeless love story, THESE BROKEN STARS sets into motion a sweeping science fiction series of companion novels. The Starbound Trilogy: Three worlds. Three love stories. One enemy.
I remember so many people being super excited about this book already earlier this year. I didn’t realize how amazing this story would be otherwise I’d have been equally excited. So, when I got approved on NetGalley I was jumping up and down with excitement… and it turned out to be one of these books, the one that will surprise you and will stay with you!
Surprising Scifi wrapped in an amazing story
The whole story was simply mind-glowingly awesome. Set in a future world, somewhere out in the space on a far advanced space ship give the whole setting a Star Wars or Star Trek feeling that I didn’t came across so often lately, but left me giddy with excitement. The setting definitely had a cinematic feeling to it, that did wonderful things to my imagination about the places and wonders of this world. Before I talk about the characters that easily one of my favourite couples this year, I want to talk first about the amazement of the storyline.
When the big planet like space ship crashes, Lilac and Tarver find themselves lost on a weird, outlandish and very dangerous planet with no chance of immediate rescue. Now, these very different kids need to work together as it will be their only hope to survive. But, this planet is very strange and soon both realize that it will be even stranger and that they will discover secrets which will threaten their lives if anyone would ever figure out..
Strong-willed and stubborn characters that were incredibly developed!
Gosh, I can’t express my feelings about Lilac and Tarver. Both were awesome and super amazing and it’s easy to connect with both of them, as we will get both POV’s in this book. This dual POV worked perfectly here, as both Lilac and Tarver are strong characters who didn’t make it easy for the other one to trust and like them. So getting to know into there innermost thoughts and feelings made it easy for us to love them. As stubborn and strong-willed as they were, this also made them endearingly cute when we got to listen to their secret feelings.
I absolutely adored the dynamic between them. With Lilac being a princess and Tarver being a “simple” soldier, those two normally had no chance to form even something remotely called a friendship. And initially both act that way and it was crazily entertaining following their snarky banter. Their voices were crystal clear and their dynamic crazily entertaining!
Sizzling Chemistry and beautiful Romance
Apart from the well developed and thrilling story, the romance between Lilac and Tarver was easily one of my favourite things. There is no instant love apart from an initial attraction to each other. But, during their strange and dangerous journey they begun to know each other, and with this easily and slowly falling hard for each other. I love slow processing and developing romances like this, it feels like we too were falling for this couple a little more with every single page we read…
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner is one of these books that everyone should give a try. It comes with a week rounded thrilling storyline that will leave out scared, thrilled and chilled, and at the same time you are not able to let go of the story until you reached the last page. Lilac and Tarver were amazing characters who were both strong-willed and endearingly stubborn, their dynamic and chemistry will satisfy the romance-seeking reader wonderfully!

I totally agree! This book was wonderful. I fell in love with the cover and was scared the book wouldn’t live up to it but boy did it. TBS is one of my favorites of the year hands down. I’m so happy you loved it too. I can’t wait for the companion novel. Brilliant review.

YEAH DANNY!!!! I have my review of this one going up tomorrow and I loved it every bit as much as you did! Big surprise huh? 😉 The romance of course was one of my favorite things as well, I loved how they started out at opposite ends of the spectrum and then slowly found themselves inching toward the middle and toward one another. SO GOOD! Is it time for book two yet?
Also, I miss you like crazy.

This was so much better than I expected it to be! And that ending…still not fully resolved about it but I liked it because it, like the whole story, was different.

Oh Danny!
There is a book signing for this one in a town a couple of hours away and I want to go but the weather has been really sucky and I have no one to go with me. Oh, but I want my book signed. I don’t even have it yet! lol
I can’t wait to read it! It sounds a little like Perry and Aria from Under the Never Sky??? At least the dual narration and the separate places in life and not liking each other at first. So glad you enjoyed it!!

Oh yes you are so right it definitely feels a little like Perry and Aria, especially the initial dislike for each other! So much fun and just like Perry and Aria, once they admit their feelings it’s wonderfully romantic!
Oh and btw, I just read the last Perry and Aria book, and OoOOooo soooo good Heather!

I cannot wait for Into the Still Blue!! I am trying not to read the reviews because I am so afraid someone will accidentally give something away. So forgive me if I don’t read your review 🙂 I love that series. Perry and Aria are one of my favorite all time couples. I wouldn’t even steal Perry from Aria I like them together so much!

This must be the fifth time that I have come across a review about These Broken Stars. I must say that I was quite skeptical in the beginning because I never had much luck with co-authored books, but so far I have only heard praises about them. I guess I will give it a shot and read to see exactly how amazing and awesome it is.
