What if your devastating break-up became this summer’s hit single? In this rock-and-roll retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, music can either bring you together or tear you apart.
At her dying mother’s request, Claire dumps Jared, the only boy she’s ever loved. Left with a broken family and a broken heart, Claire is furious when she discovers that her biggest regret became Jared’s big break. While Jared is catapulted into rock-star status, another piece of Claire’s heart crumbles every time his song plays on the radio.
The summer after her senior year, it’s been months since the big break-up, and Claire is just trying to keep her head down and make it through a tense trip to the beach with her family. But when Jared shows up, and old feelings reignite, can Claire and Jared let go of the past? Or will they be stuck singing the same old refrain?
I just love books with music rockstars. I mean we all are aware of their sexy allure, right girls? So when I saw the synopsis from Another Little Piece of My Heart by Tracey Martin I was hooked and ready to get lost in music and romance.
Doing the right thing, might not be the … right thing after all..
Claire comes from a wealthy family and her parents are all about appearances. Which is why they never liked Claire going out with Jared who definitely was not a good fit for Claire, or so her parents think. When Claire’s mom is diagnosed with cancer and her wish is for Claire to break up with Jared, Claire does what she thinks is the right thing to do… Here comes already the tricky part for me. As much as I tried not to be angry with Claire’s mom, I was!!! Just her having cancer gives her not to right to abuse her sickness to force her daughter to do so. Emotional blackmail! Poor Claire!
So poor briefing Claire leaves the Jared who she is madly in love with for the sake of her family. Jared in return, turns all his anger and sadness into music which in turn makes him a big rockstar. Well, this is how life can play…
More than a year later these two meet by chance in a small town, where Claire’s family wants to regroup after nearly losing everything (including her college funds!!) and now Claire has to face the boy who broke her heart….. (well, after she broke his first…)
Claire talented strong, wonderful girl!
Claire was actually easy to like, despite her having made some bad choices, I always understood where’s coming from and why she reacted in a certain way. In her situation other girls would fall apart, loosing her mother, her boyfriend and now a future at the College she always wanted to go. Everything seems to fall apart, but Claire is not a real quitter. She always tries to make the best out of her situation and I loved this strength about her.
Also, her anger about Jared writing hateful songs about her which definitely show her in a very wrong light doesn’t break her, but makes her fight. And as much as she was trying to deny the attraction she still felt to Jared, her anger protected her from falling into is arms.
Jared – Oh Boy.. Don’t know what do to with you..
I wanted to love Jared and fall for him hard. Usually, that is what I’m looking for in these kind of stories. But I found him rather hard to like initially. Sure, Claire broke his heart. But then – he just ran away instead of fighting for her. Also, when Claire’s mom died, he was also not there. Now, meeting Claire again he also lacked a little of the charm I was looking for. He was more the poor tortured boy, whose life has been anything but easy.
Also, during the time they now spend together she did and said some hurtful things to Claire, which made me quite furious about him. Sure once the story progresses we get to know Jared and his motivations better and finally begin to trust him with our girl Claire.
Another Little Piece of My Heart by Tracey Martin was a cute and quick story with a wonderful heroine and the rockstar boyfriend. As much and easy I loved Claire, I had a hard time with Jared at first, and we needed some time to get together. What I also found surprising was the lack of romantic scenes, this is the story of them getting over their issues and back together – but I was sadly missing the chemistry between them. I wanted to feel their attraction and due to the circumstances couldn’t really. Still, the story was cute and Claire was a wonderful girl we just wished all the best and a boy who truly loves her!
