Coming with such an unique premise and such an amazing cover, I was more than excited when I got a chance to read it! I mean… who doesn’t love superheroes!!!

YES! Dark Knight meets Cinder!
That was part of the premise and that was exactly what we got. So for once the blurb wasn’t misleading and rather preparing us what is to come! The whole setting of the story was very dark and edgy and even reminds a little of old Gotham City. Lot’s of crimes on one hand and the privileged rich on the other side. At the beginning I was wondering where and when this story takes place and I was slightly confused a few times as the world building was slightly lacking. I just would have wished for a little more details so that I could get easier into the story. I think once I envisioned something like Gotham City I was fine.
But where comes the Cinder part?
This was surprising, because Anthem our little Teenage hero girly gets transformed into a superhero with a metallic heart to save her life. That was a really cool twist I wish would have been explored more.
Superhero on a mission! Go Girl!
When something utterly tragic happens to Anthem, she not only becomes a gothic superhero but she also has a mission! Without being able to tell you what happens (please see my spoiler part below) I can’t tell you much more other than I LOVED the Anthem she became. She was kick ass and fiercely determined to bring those criminals down and hand them over to justice. Also, slowly she begins to see her City in a new light. A city that was always a save heaven for her now has all those ugly places and it’s on Anthem to give these people back hope.
Yep, totally think Batman here!
Even Superheroes need Romance!
As many of you know I need a good romance and lack thereof always makes me unhappy. In The Brokenhearted we have a quite interesting romance, which was part sweet, cute and then heartbreaking. Again, I can’t tell you much more without spoiling major storylines for you., but dear lover of love – all is goodJ
My main complain about this book apart from the previous mentioned lack of world building, was that I figured out the big plot twist already super early. Even more, I think it was not necessary for me to figure this out and I would have rather be shocked senseless when finally this big mystery was revealed! And.. it was just one tiny little thing, but an attentive reader will most definitely catch it just like me. I hope this particular scene gets maybe rewritten for the final version.

Bottom Line
The Brokenhearted was dark, edgy and thrilling wrapped in a Batman like tale where a Teenage superhero girl fights back instead of just looking from the outside. Anthem was an awesome heroine who was kickass strong but also beautifully real and genuine. Even though I found the world building slightly lacking and must complain about the way too obvious twist, I will mist definitely read the next book and I am eagerly await Anthem’s next story!

Also, if you read the big, did you also figure out the Plot Twist too early? Gosh, I wish I could talk about this as it really drove me mad and I think, if you’d just would have skipped one sentence all would have been good!

My first thought at looking at this cover – not even the blurb – was Cyborg!
Do you feel like the romance was superfluous or actually worked into the plot? I like a good romance but not when it’s just stuck in because authors think they need it.
BTW…I just found out my neighbor is going to Munich in a few days. I need to look through all my photos and give her some good travel tips!

Hm the romance… the romance is very hard to explain and I wouldn’t dare explaining it. It takes up a big part of the book where it has a dominant and important role. I don’t want to spoil the book for you so I can’t comment more on the romance 🙂

Love the premise of this one but I’m sad that the worldbuilding is less than fabulous (I was hoping for a dark and gritty world in need of rescue) and that the twist is easy to figure out. Oh, well. I’m still looking forward to it! I’ll just be prepared going in.

So I had this on my wish list….but a Danny problem with it. I’m not sure now. Is it a series? It’s got to be a series. Maybe I’ll wait to see a few more reviews. But darn. One little sentence makes or breaks it, huh? Maybe they took it out. We’ll see as the reviews come out. Thanks for your honesty!

I don’t know if this is going to be a series, I might think so.
and YES one little sentence made me figure out the plot twist. One.Sentence. and there was no need to figure out this so early, truly we didn’t need this tiny hint of what to expect, in fact it made me a little mad that the surprise was spoiled.
I hope they took it out! And yesI do know that I am ranting about this now lol!

I think I’d read this book just based on the fact that it’s a female superhero. Represent! I’m still miffed that we haven’t gotten a Black Widow solo movie.
Anyway, I really liked Cinder, and the Dark Knight is one of those movies that leaves my jaw on the ground, so I’m definitely adding this one to my TBR list!

That makes me a bit glad I didn’t end up grabbing this one for review. It does sound good but if some things were a bit too predictable that would ruin some of the fun for me.
