Rafael Angelos just got handed the greatest gift any teenage boy could ever dream of. Upon arriving at his new boarding school for senior year, he discovered that he is the ONLY male student. But what should have been a godsend isn't exactly heaven on Earth.
Raffi's about to learn that St. Mary's is actually a hub for demons-and that he was summoned to the school by someone expecting him to save the day. Raffi knows he's no angel-but it's pretty hard to deny that there's some higher plan at work when he wakes up one morning to discover a glowing circle around his head.
Helen Keeble's debut novel, Fang Girl, has been praised for its pitch-perfect teen voice, and VOYA called it "refreshing and reminiscent of Louise Rennison's Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series." No Angel brings you angels and demons like you've never seen them-complete with the wry humor of Vladimir Tod, sinfully irreverent romance, and some hilariously demonic teenage dilemmas
For some very strange Reason I didn’t read the first book from Helen Keeble called FANG GIRL. Quite frankly, I just didn’t like the cover…. However… I had no idea what kind of story I was missing out on!!!!
Pure Comedy, are you ready to laugh?
This book was fanfreaking hilarious!!!! It was pure comedy and made me smile and giggle like crazy while reading. Seriously, I think I might have had a big smile plastered on my face while reading. Helen Keeble has a voice and way of creating her characters voice unlike anything I have read before. It’s not often to find such funny and comedy like stories among Young Adult novels.
But.. here they are! Helen Keeble is here to rescue the giggle!
Poor Angel Boy along among Girls…
In No Angel Rafael Angelos (seriously, that’s his name…) comes to boarding school where he is the only boy. Yes, this school is filled with girls and he’s all alone with his male hormones. And if these circumstance weren’t enough, he also discovers that this is something strange going on and suddenly he is also changing and … gets besides a halo also wings… ugh!
You can imagine that this strange and outlandish environment leaves tons of room for weird situations!
The novel is told from Rafael’s POV and I freaking loved his voice. Even more being in his head made me burst out laughing. Here are a few of my favorite random quotes that will definitely clear up what I mean:
“ I don’t speak giggle”
“Rather than vomiting – which was what I considered an appropriate reaction to such utter cheesiness – Kate giggled”
Surprising Story arc, but little romance..
The story itself was nice, but not great and silly at some points. Some elements made my eyes pop out as I couldn’t truly believe Helen Keeble would go there. But no, she just did whatever she wanted and I liked it! But.. to be honest I didn’t care too much about the Angel and Demon storyline as I very much enjoyed exploring Rafael’s character. Besides the Angel/Demon storylines we can also find a little romance, but this romance was most definitely lacking a sizzling butterfly feeling and played along more in the background.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
No Angel by Helen Keeble will make you burst out laughing so be careful where you are going to read this book! What the book is lacking in the story department is made up by the phenomenal and hilarious voice of Rafael Angelos, sole male student at an all Girls Academy!

Silly is GOOD! I love a fun book — one read for pure enjoyment with zero expectations of a huge, detailed plot or love or whatever. Giggles definitely work!

We’ve talked about this one Danny, and while I’m of course disappointed the romance wasn’t more of a highlight for you, the humor seems like it made up for it. I love a book that makes me laugh out loud, and a huge YAY for a male POV that’s full of snark and humor rather than broodiness. Definitely need to read this one!

I really enjoyed the author’s first book. Like you said, it’s silly and ridiculous at times and but it was a lot fun.
I like that there is a male POV in this book and yes, his name definitely cracked me up.
I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Danny!
Lovely review.

This sounds great. I’m so up for a good laugh. I haven’t read a funny YA book in quite awhile. I did just finish Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and that was hilarious.

I have this one and wasn’t all that eager to read it because the cover wasn’t something I like…but I’ve seen some great reviews so now I really do want to read it. I don’t think I’ve read a book like this one.
