melie Bennett. . . . Ending the world, one prophecy at a time.
I was born to slay Crossworld demons.
Big black flappy ones, little green squirmy ones. Unfortunately, the only thing getting slain these days is my social life. With my high school under attack, combat classes intensifying, and Academy instructors dropping right and left, I can barely get my homework done, let alone score a bondmate before prom.
Then he shows up.
Jackson Smith-Hailey. Unspeakably hot, hopelessly unattainable, and dangerous in all the right ways. Sure, he’s my trainer. And okay, maybe he hates me. Doesn’t mean I’ll ignore the wicked Guardian chemistry between us. It’s crazy! Every time I’m with him, my powers explode. Awesome, right?
Wrong.
Now my teachers think I’m the murderous Graymason destined to bring down our whole race of angelbloods. Everyone in New Orleans is hunting me. The people I trusted want me dead. Jack and I have five days to solve the murders, prevent a vampire uprising, and thwart the pesky prophecy foretelling his death by my hand. Shouldn’t be too difficult.Getting it done without falling in love. . . that might take a miracle.
Young Adult Paranormal? Check! Angel? Yes bring it!!! With all my Contemporary reads lately I was more than excited getting into this new YA paranormal series!
Quirky, snarky trouble maker!
Amelie, the main characters has a fantastic voice! She was fast, funny had always a witty or snarky reply and was kick ass, yet sometimes a real trouble maker who does not care for rules..at all! This is how I like my heroines! She is trained to become a Guardian and Demon Slayer, basically there to protect us and she loves doing this. However, there is a Prophecy looming over her head she desperately tries to escape… But Amelie, wouldn’t be Amelie if she wouldn’t fight this and tries everything to wiggle out of it!
Action Twist and Turns
The plot is rich, fast-moving and filled with tons of twists I didn’t see coming and some that were rather obvious. The story really had a great pace  filled with a lot of background. I love reading stories that are filled with action and story as it never gets boring and we are constantly moving forward without slow and boring passages. The Angel and Demon lore was interesting and showed the authors clear imagination and ability to develop her own world, I love when an author creates something new and unique! Some twist will make you gasp as you do not see them coming!
Jack and the Romance….
As much as I loved the whole story, I must admit that I didn’t completely feel the love and romance. Just as Amelie I was completely mesmerized by Jack once we first meet him, but then I couldn’t feel the spark and chemistry between them. I loved Jack and then I was annoyed by him, so I definitely have a wishy-washy relationship with him. I was especially turned down by Jacks supposed to be sweet nickname for Amelie. It was funny. but I found it rather weird and completely unsexy. In addition I had this strong Vampire Academy mixed with The Covenant series feeling because Jack is Amelie’s combat instructor…. Still, the storyline completely stood out and managed to set this book apart from these well know series.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Prophecy Girl by Cecily White was fast paced filled with kick ass action and a quirky heroine who was full of snark! The story and angel lore was stunning and managed to woo me over. Finally, it was the lack of sizzling connection with the romance that made me not completely fall in love with this story. Still, it’s a great start in a series I will definitely keep reading!

I had just about the same reaction to this one! Loved the voice, loved the pace, wasn’t a huge fan of the romance — it was lacking, somehow. Still, a good debut!

I’ve seen so many mixed reviews for this one and the one thing that keeps popping up is the similarities to Vampire Academy. I generally like the whole boarding school/paranormal stuff combo, but not sure how’d I’d feel about it being similar to one of my favorite series!

I do have this one, and I guess I should really get to reading it. Sounds good. 😀 The romance does sounds like it was a little lacking, so I’ll keep that in mind. Great review.

I think this sounds like a good book — though I’m a sucker for a good romance… 🙂 I have a question about the graphics you use — and I realize this is random and off the wall, but, do you make the 3D looking book covers? If so, do you have a template or a program that does it for you?
Thanks in advance!

You know, I think I’ve had my fill of angel stories for a while. This one does sound fun, though, and I like that the heroine seems pretty badass. Perhaps if I find myself in the mood for an angel book, I’ll check this one out.
Also, I’ve been meaning to tell you how much I adore your rating system! It is sooooo cute! <3

Great review. I do enjoy the romance part of a book, but it sounds like the kick ass action could make up for it.

Aw, sorry you didn’t like the romance! That’s definitely an important part! Just from your review, I definitely agree it sounds alot like the Covenant series (I haven’t read Vamp Academy) with the snarky, kick-ass, rule-breaking heroine and the romance with the instructor. I’m glad the story stood out though! I may give this one a try!
