Welcome to the Beautiful Darkness Book Discussion Recap!! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by this week’s discussion post and left an answer. We are particularly excited to see that some of you are planning to read along with the discussion here. *happy dance*

If you haven’t had a chance to read this week’s discussion post by Amber, you can find it here. And all the information about the discussion (complete with the schedule of chapters and dates) and it’s accompanying contest, is available here.

This week’s discussion question was:

At what point do you feel that [Ethan’s mom, Lila Jane]
began to violate the rules of being a Keeper?

Hmmm….good question! Here’s what you all thought.

MyTwilife said:

I don’t think she started breaking the rules until after her death when she began to help Ethan and Lena and then ultimately Macon. And it is my opinion that yes, she would be released from those rules after her death.

Now if you asked me if she would have broke the rules if she was still living…..I don’t know about her, but being a mother and putting myself in her (totally made up by me for amusement) position…yes I would have broke the rules to help my son.

Darkfallen agreed:

[H]er job as a Keeper ended with her last breath and therefore the rules no longer apply to her. Now she is just a kick ass mom defending her son! Just goes to show there is no end to her love of Ethan. There is no sacrifice to big. Even spending her afterlife with Macon.

Erikasbuddy also agreed and posed some interesting theories:

I personally don’t think that Ethan’s mom is human. Either bit by a werewolf, stung by a demon, or chomped on by a vampy poo… I think that’s when she had to give up her keeper duties…

Because they keep saying “Oh snap! LEna soo shouldn’t be with that boy”. I take that to mean there is something in his blood.

So, I think that Lila Jane was always breaking the rules as a keeper because there wasn’t something quite right about her. There has to be something more to it. Also, she seems to me to be the kind of person that would want to touch everything she passes (remind you of an underage keeper in training?)

which prompted Britta to reply with some theories of her own:

oooh! Good theory! I always kind of felt that there was something more to Ethan… And that part of him would have to come from Lila. Maybe she was never a keeper and Marian is bound to Lila in a way stronger than she is to Ethan and would never tell Lila’s secrets….

As for the never got caught until the end, I think higher casters (specific dark casters *cough cough*) always knew who she was and what she was doing. I think Abraham was waiting for a moment to use that against Macon for not being as dark as he should be (as Abraham believes he should be).

Good answers and FANTASTIC theories!!! We’re glad you stopped by and commented! If you missed your chance to comment on last week’s post, there’s still time to answer the question and get your entry into the Beautiful Darkness Book Discussion Contest. And keep your eyes out for this week’s post, coming to you on Tuesday by our own Bookworm, Cutie!!
