In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and sixteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides.

Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his seventeenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die.

But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.

I borrowed Half Bad from the library last March and loved it. I read a digital ARC of Half Wild in December and really wished that I had done a reread of Half Bad first. I plan to do a reread of both before I read the third book (so far unnamed) in the series. I also recently discovered that Half Lies (Half Bad 0.5) was released in November.

I loved Half Bad! Nathan has been through so much yet is still somehow himself. I want to read Half Wild to see if his dad stays around, and for so many more reasons!

I haven’t read it yet, but I desperately want to. I love that Nathan is both a white witch and a black witch. Sounds like a very interesting book!

  10. I haven’t yet read it, but not for lack of wanting. I have been trying to not start so many series until the final book is released because I have SOO many up in the air. Trust me when I say, it has been very hard to not bring this one home with me when I go to the library and see it on the shelf ever time.
