We are super excited to be part of the annual Authors Are Rockstars Tour hosted by the fantastic bloggers  Fiktshun, Two Chicks on Books, Magical Urban Fantasy Reads.

It’s an epic tour with more than 160 Authors and Bloggers who will celebrate their favorite Authors.

We here at the Bookworms are thrilled to host the wonderful, fantastic, and totally amazing

Katie McGarry.

KatieMcGarryMonth

And not only will be celebrate her today, but for the whole month of August! YES! This will be Katie McGarry Month here at the Bookworms. Before we tell you why Katie is our Rockstar, here is what you can expect for the next 4 weeks:

  • Interview with Katie McGarry – today!!!
  • Why we love Katie McGarry’s Writing & Characters – Friday, August 9th
  • Interview with Katie’s Editor at HarlequinTEEN – Margo Lipschultz – Friday, August 16th
  • Crash Into You Surprise!!! – Friday, August 23rd

You can see that we have something amazing planned for you guys!

Katie McGarry is our Rockstar

She is definitely the most wonderful and sweetest person. Not only are her books phenomenal (and we’ll get to this in a second), but  she is also very kind, generous, and amazing. First, we fell in love with her writing, but when we actually met her in person, it became more than just the love for her books when we realized what a phenomenal person she is. She gave us so much of her time, and talking to her is so easy and effortless that time flies by so quickly.

Katie’s writing is outstanding. She creates characters that go straight into the heart of us readers, sucking us into their stories with a frightening intensity. Katie writes with so much depth and care that makes her stories and characters so compelling and captivating. The emotional depth and breadth of  backgrounds of her characters is immense, and she has such a way of writing that brings back the angsty, heartbroken teenager in all of us–whether we’ve been in similar situations or not.

 Katie McGarry

Pushy, Jenny, Katie, Julie and Danny (BEA 2013)

If there was one author that we would have to label as a Rockstar, it’s definitely Katie McGarry. We are honored to host her here at the Bookworms and to celebrate her awesomeness!

And now, we are excited to welcome Katie for a little Chat:

What’s the most amazing part of being a published author?

The e-mails from fans. I love hearing how the stories and the characters have touched my readers. I especially love the messages that tell me that my stories have given people hope.

We are sure your life has changed quite a bit since you got published. What would you say has changed the most in your life?

Would you believe that I used to be terrified of public speaking? Yep, that was me. The person who used to get all jittery at the thought of speaking in front of two people.

Last year, Harlequin asked me to participate in several author panels. I agreed, but was terrified. Then something amazing happened, I wasn’t scared anymore. I was able to talk and tell stories and soon found myself enjoying it.

I think what flipped the switch was that I was talking about what I truly enjoy: writing and giving hope.

KatieMcGarry Teen Author Carnival

Katie at the Teen Author Carnival – 2012

Would you mind sharing your weirdest/funniest/cutest moment since you got published?

One of my favorite moments was when I met all of you (The Bewitched Bookworms). I’ll never forget the shock I felt when I realized that you guys had read my book and that you had liked it.

(Note from Danny: That was the best moment for us too!!!! I remember meeting you and the first thing I said to you was “OMG I LOVED your book so much” as I had just finished Pushing The Limits before going to BEA in 2012!!)

A more recent moment was today when my children discovered that “Google knew who I was!” because I came up on a Google search. They were very wide-eyed and impressed.

DareYouTo_3DWhich of your characters do you feel closest to and came to you the fastest?

Definitely Beth. She captures a lot of my vulnerabilities. Beth was a very difficult character to write, but she was also my most therapeutic.

We remember that we saw you comment on a post about New Adult some years ago (before you got published with HarlequinTEEN), and considering that your books are all quite edgy and also mature, do you think you might also write a New Adult book at some time?

I definitely have not ruled it out, but right now I’m focusing on Contemporary YA.

What draws you to a book as a reader?

A rich romance with a big, juicy plot!

Now, we want to congratulate you on selling a new series!! We were super excited to hear we will get more from you!

You guys have no idea how excited I am about this project!

Do you mind teasing us a little with your newest project?

Actually, the project I’m currently working on is a continuation of the Pushing the Limits series! Here is a brief description:

Hot guy who has taken on a fight to protect a girl’s honor.

A girl who has sworn to never fall for a fighter again.

Two months alone in a ring and the sparks fly.

*Gasp*

Holy Shit!!! THAT sounds awesome and as usual we all cannot wait to hear more about this!!

About Crash Into You

Coming November 26th 2013 by Harlequin Teen

goodreads| pre-order:  amazon

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane

The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that’s who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers…and she’s just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can’t get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they’ll go to save each other.

I haven’t read them yet, but I think I could love Katie McGarry because I’ve heard nothing but good things about her books! I’ve been dying to read them just because of the many 4 and 5 star ratings I’ve seen from all the blogs I follow. And obviously because the stories sounded interesting to me based on the blurbs 🙂

  2. I’ve only read Pushing the Limits, but I loved it because Katie McGarry has this great way of conveying these dark, gritty, real emotions without making it too melodramatic or fake (which is a problem I have with other books). Her characters have depth and are relatable, and I love them too!

I love Pushing the Limits, Crossing the Line and Dare You To. And I can’t wait until Crash into You and read about Isaiah finding love. Of course I’m already thinking about 2014, I really want to read Katie McGarry’s new series that’s pitched as “Sons of Anarchy meets West Side Story”. If I ever meet Katie, I’ll be fangirling. That is a promise!

Katie writes from the heart about real people with real issues. Issues a lot of people can actually relate to. Her books are all about overcoming hardships and the crappy things life can dump on a person. I love her for writing about something I can relate to.

I read pushing the limits a few months ago because my friend loved it and we have the same taste in books. I read it and felt in love with it. It was one of those books that I couldn’t stop reading and I didn’t want it to end. I would love to read more books by Katie because she is an amazing writer.

  11. Katie is amazing at telling a story. I instantly connected with Echo and Noah and thought there was no way I’d love Beth as much, but I did … even more actually.

I love her style and she manages to tell a story with a tough topic in a way that doesn’t make it feel quite so heavy!

Katie McGarry has a way with words. She writes teen books that resonate with adults just as much as teens. (I’m one of those.) Her characters are real and so are the situations they find themselves in. She’s great at pulling you into their worlds and feeling each and everything they do.

  17. I love that Katie is so real. In her books she writes about tough stuff, but keeps it real. It might be sad and even make us mad, but it’s real. I also love that as a person she’s so real. In interviews and on social media, emails, etc, she’s just so easy to talk to. To me (or us) she’s a rockstar, but she’s one that’s darn easy to chat with!

    Awesome giveaway, thank you everyone!

I love Katie’s books because they deal with the real young adults’ issues that are not discussed with friends or counselors. Sometime sharing personal information and experience with their peers could be quite embarrassing.

  19. OK this may be a tmi post, but its the truthful answer to why I love Katie’s Books. I am queer so I don’t read a lot of contemporary romance novels, as traditional romance doesn’t always ring my bell. However, PTL was highly recommended to me from all my book loving friends. AND I LOVED IT & have proceeded to read, Dare You To and can not wait for Crash! Plus it has given me a reason to read a lot more contemporary romance now that i have found that these books were sooo good!

I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to start.
Do you have any points or suggestions? Cheers
