Teaser from DARE YOU TO – Ryan’s POV
Beth relaxes back onto the bleacher. “I’ll ask again, what’s the game, Jock Boy?”
“No game,” I say too quickly and try to slow it down. The door to the locker rooms opens and I hear laughter as people enter the gym. I have seconds to impress her before the bleachers fill. “You’re pretty, Beth.” Suddenly it’s hard to look at her. She is pretty. More than pretty. I stare at my shoes. Get a grip, Ryan. She’s a dare.
“I’m pretty?” Beth raises her voice and I glimpse the other students climbing the bleachers and taking their seats. Their chatter stops and they watch the two of us. This is not how this moment is supposed to go.
“I’m pretty,” she repeats loud enough for the entire gym to hear. The evil sparkle in her eye informs me that she’s enjoying the social lynching. “Is that the best line you can come up with? Let’s fast-forward this entire conversation so you can stop wasting my time.” She holds up the palm of her hand and even though the word is gone, I still see my defeat: can’t.
OoooooOOo my Gosh!!! That is so freaking awesome… I LOVE Ryan is a fantastic cute and sweet and deliciously sexy boy!
Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. “Dance with me, Beth.”
“No.” I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again….
“I dare you…”
If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….
Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.
But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….
We will soon have our Review up and all I’m going to say it – EPIC!!! !
But to get over this anxious waiting time- Katie just released her Novella Crossing The Line which is set in between Pushing The Limits and Dare You To
Series : Pushing the Limits #1.5
Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…
Lila McCormick, Echo’s best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.
Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.(
This novella is truly a tour de force of YA romance.
In the briefest amount of time, the reader is pulled into the emotional intensity of Lila’s quest for freedom and acceptance and Lincoln’s desire to gain his own by being a part of hers. In perfectly paced prose, Katie McGarry quickly layes the background for both characters, making them at once full and immediately present to the reader and yet retaining enough mystery about their pasts to leave the reader wondering, “What Happened Before?” as much as “What Happens Next?” With carefully laid out mystery and tension, the reader is quickly routing for Lila and Lincoln and soon enough dreaming of what their HEA will be. And while the story is short, readers of McGarry’s work can always hope for more of Lila and Lincoln in the future. There’s certainly enough left out there to tantalize a reader back into this deliciously romantic couple’s story!
This is definitely a book you should pick up, particularly if you want to spend an hour or two in the blissful arms of Katie McGarry’s words!
