Scarlet by Marissa Meyer  on Goodreads:

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Alrighty, Danny here – and I admit that it was only because of Pushy that I read Cinder. I was not so into Fairy Tale retellings, but then Pushy read this book and didn’t let me go until I read it!

Well! Thank you sooo freaking much!!!

*Pushy pops in* Oh, please!!!  See, that’s why we have each other!  Besides!!!  I absolutely needed someone to squee with me ove the awesomeness that was Cinder!

Scarlet

Let’s get started with Scarlet. What did you expect from the book?

Pushy:  I have been dying to get my paws on this books since before I had even finished Cinder!

Danny: I admit, I didn’t even read the synopsis clearly. I just knew I needed to read this book! So, without thinking I suspected this story to be about Cinder’s escape and her finding the good Doctor.

Pushy:  How could you not read the synopsis?!?!?!?!  *Pushy throws her hands up in the air*

Danny: Why should I? I know I needed to read this book anyways! Gosh, I was surprised when the book first focused on a new character, Scarlet, and ..the utter deliciously awesome Wolf!

Pushy:  Oooooohhhhhh…….Wolf.  *sigh*

So, how did you like Scarlet as a new main character in the Lunar Chronicles?

Danny: Oh I loved this girl!!! She was fierce, brave, loyal and awesome! She was so determined to find her Grandma and she would have sacrificed everything for her! Truly admired this girl!

Pushy:  Scarlet is AMAZING!!!  Tough and smart and feisty, just like her Grandmere, she’s the kind of girl you’d want in your corner and she was an absolute delight to read!

…and … what about Wolf?

Pushy:  Oh, I love Wolf!!!  There’s such a shyness about him, something elusive….something just below the surface that hints at secrets that will break your heart.

Danny: ahhh .. Wolf!! Gosh he was amazing. He ws the perfect combination of all bad, and kick ass on the outside but within the shell, there was this heartbreaking vulnerability that made me melt. Clearly, Ms. Meyer created a wonderful character full of contradictions who is an amazing addition to this story!

Wait, don’t forget about Thorn!

Pushy:  So think Flynn Ryder from Tangled.  You know the scene from all the previews, where he warns Rapunzle that he’s going to have to unleash the smolder?  Yeah… Thorne’s a bit like that.  Like Wolf he’s not totally the good guys, but then again….he’s got his good points.

Danny: *giggles* Yes that’s perfect!

Hey! What about Cinder and Kai? Does their story move along too?

Danny: But of course! Cinder is still a center part of the story and we follow her on when she’s escaping from the prison.but she’s not alone, she’s finds someone who is going to help her escape and I loooved him soo freaking much! He was all cocky, witty and so funny!!

Pushy:  Oh, it’s so sad, how things have fallen apart for Kai since Levana came between him and Cinder!  And things really haven’t gotten better for Kai in this book.  And yet…there’s always hope, right?

Danny: I must say that I missed a little to see Kai and Cinder together… Makes me even more excited abotut the next one!

and… how are those two stories connected?

Danny: Well, duh… we are not going to say! But, we can tell that when it finally clicked, it was made of awesome!!

Pushy:  Can’t we give just a few spoilers???  *gives Danny the sad fox eyes*  PLEEAAAASSSEEEE????????

Danny:  *gives Pushy a stern look*  Just because you like spoilers doesn’t mean the rest of the world does.

Pushy:  Hmmphf.  *pouty face*

  1. I finished this one last week and was going to do a quick review of it…until I started writing about it. Couldn’t seem to stop talking! I love Wolf! I love Scarlet! I wanted more of both of them as well as all the Cinder action — this book needed to be twice as big to satisfy. Nah. Even the size it was, it still satisfied. SO MUCH THAT I WANT MOAR!! Heh. Love your joint reviews.

Sad fox eyes will get you nowhere, Pushy!

Tis true, Mary darling! Danny is by far WAY too immune to my sad fox eyes or my pouty face. 😀

  2. hehe Danny, synopsis aren’t always necessary and like you said, you were going to read it anyway. 😀 sometimes I realise I have no clue what the book is about while reading it though so then I go back and read the synopsis. I really loved Scarlet too! totally agree on Throne as Eugene, I can definitely see it. Fantastic review, you two! 😀

I don’t know how Danny stayed away! I kept checking for the cover reveal and then to find out what the next book would be about. But I am a TOTAL spoiler bunny at heart, so…. 🙂

  3. SO GOOD YOU GUYS!!!!! I don’t think I could be any more in love with Wolf than I already am, and if you get me talking about Thorne I’ll never stop. He was hilarious and I can’t wait for more of him in the next book. This series is just amazing, I’m so glad you guys are as big of fangirls as I am!

  4. I wanted to read Cinder so bad last year, I adored the cover and I was so happy that it panned out. I was lucky enough to have Marissa on my blog for FIre and Ice kick off week and she told me that Thorne was a bit of Han Solo, I loved Thorne he is cocky and arrogant but he made me laugh. Sure I love Wolf and Kai but Thorne takes the cake. This series is amazing and I think book two was even better! So happy to read this gushing post!

HA! I rarely read the synopsis of a book either because while I want to know what it’s about, after the first paragraph, I don’t read too much else because I pretty much want everything to be a surprise (oddly, I really only do this for paranormal books, for contemporaries, I read everything I can). Yet for this one I knew it was about another character and that almost sent me off the rails ’cause I need to know what happens to Cinder, etc.

I didn’t even read all of the comments or the review because I don’t want to know one thing about the book (though what I read was hilarious, you guys should do tag-team reviews more often. And I’m with Danny, no spoilers!). I’m grabbing my wallet and ordering this book now, I really need to read it!

  6. I really loved Cinder so I have been dying to read this book. I have been putting it off though since I didn’t love the idea of new characters being introduced. I wanted Cinder’s story and that was all I wanted. I guess I’m going to have to let go of my silly fear of meeting new characters in Cinder’s world.

Thanks for the awesome review, glad you both loved it. 🙂

  7. Yes, oh yummy Wolf…come to my house. You know I have to say…Flynn Ryder is such a PERFECT description of Thorn! Oh and I hate what Kai did at the end. Weak…totally – I say fight, fight for all your worth…giving in never helps anyone!
