What A Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn, synopsis from goodreads:

Courtesy of watching his mom’s relationships, Sebastian Hawkins knows what girls need to do to get a guy. He has what he considers a PHD in hooking up. When he needs extra cash for a car, Sebastian starts up an online venture as The Hook-up Doctor, to anonymously help girls land the guy of their dreams. Of course, his services don’t offer a happily-ever-after guarantee. He’s seen firsthand getting together never means staying together. And then he falls in love…

With the last girl he would expect…

Totally not in his game plan.

Suddenly, Sebastian finds himself muddled in the game he’s always prided himself on. He can’t even pick up girls at parties anymore! Why would anyone want to be in love when it turns you into a stuttering, screwed-up, mess with really lame stalker tendencies? Stalking? Totally not his gig.

But the Hook-up Doctor won’t let himself go down easily. He’s always known how to give a girl what she wants and now it’s time to figure out what a boy wants… and he definitely plans on getting it.

Today I decided on joining the Speed Dating Review Link up from my dear Bloggy Friends Mary – The Book Swarm- basically it’s a short type of review! “Thursday is Speed Date Night. What’s a Book Speed Date? It’s a quickie review–about 150 words or so–of any genre book. If you want to join in the speed dating fun, sign up in the Linky. The speed date is all about “meeting” new books.” From Mary The Bookswarm.

Speed Dating with Sebastian from What A Boy Wants

What A Boy wants was unbelievable cute and so so much fun!!! The story centers around Sebastian who despite hooking up girls with other boys, he never stayed along with a girl himself. Until he realizes he’s in love with his best friend…. And things get complicated for “The Hook Up Doctor” *snickers*

Cooky, Smug – but there is a cuteness underneath!

What I loved most about this book was the absolutely clear, unique and definitely teenage male voice of Sebastian! The author – despite being female – captured the tone perfectly! I loved Sebastians slightly arrogant, smug and cooky character  because inside he’s the cutest boy ever! The relation between him and his mother was most adorable  and very very sweet- he never considered himself to “manly” to kiss and love his mother!

Perfect male teenage voice – beware, you’ll fall for him!

I loved the romance and I loved this story! The only reason why I’m taking out 1 star was that it was slightly predictable towards the end. Other than this?  Nyrae Dawn has a new fan! Love her voice, her writing and her insights into a teenage boys mind! What a Boy Wants is a must read for everyone who loves male POV’s, contemporary romance with a funny and light touch.

Additional Notes:

I bought this book because of a fantastic Blogger Review!!!
Although What a Boy Wants is a Standalone, Nyrae Dawn wrote a companion book What A Boy Needs – which features Sebastians best friend Jaden, who we already got to know in this book. I still have to read it – but it’s super high on my wish list!! Also,  Nyrae Dawn has another book coming out soon – wich I’m dying to read as soon as it comes out!  Karma Bites comes out August and it sounds awesome and fun!

Oh and do not miss your chance to grab a copy of What A Boy Wants for yoursellf – it’s available for only $0.99 on amazon right now! You can get What a Boy Needs for $1.99
Happy Friday my Friends and .. please go and speed – date with  Sebastian!
Yours,
What a Boy Wants is the perfect example for the All Male Challenge!!!

  2. Yay for a male protagonist that actually FEELS like a male protagonist! You don’t know how many times I’ve read a book when that line in between was a little blurred LOL x) And “The Hook Up Doctor”?? That just made me smile! This book sounds so absolutely sweet — I love it when the guy finally realizes that he’s fallen in love with his best friend! And I usually don’t mind predictability in contemps, so this book seems like the PERFECT sweet read for Mimi! :’)

Amazing review, Danny! 99 cents is such a steal! 😉 <3

  3. LOVE when an author truly captures a guy’s voice! It’s a hard thing–you don’t want the character to be a jerk, especially one known as a “Hook-Up Doctor” *snort*. I’ve got to check this one out! Cheers!

  4. Oooo I love stories like this Danny! One of my favorite types of relationships is the “I’m in love with my best friend” type – it makes me all warm and gooey every time. Plus, yay for a male narrator! I think I need to meet Sebastian for sure:)

I was sold to What A Boy Wants just from reading Hook Up Doctor. I just knew this story would be funny and Bastian cracked me up so many times. I love how fierce and protective he is of his friends but my favorite thing about this book was the crew being two girls and two guys and all being complete best friends. I fell in love with all four and I wish there would be more stories after What A Boy Needs(I also love this book) because I never want to say goodbye to them. These two books are definitely must read right now books.

  10. I have this one on my Kindle to read! I can’t wait to now that you’ve reviewed it. I thought it would be good just from the synopsis and I love the male POV. I like the Speed Dating review. I doubt I could do it. My comments are longer than that review sometimes! LOL

  11. Those two books are on my to read list, but it’ll probably be a while, before I can ever read What A Boy Needs. I saw I can get What a Boy Wants as a physical copy.

I think I need to start dropping hints and telling family members all I want for Christmas is an e-reader. =D

  12. I love that you said sebastian has a great male voice. I am really enjoying books that are split pov between guy and girl and I would love to try some more all male pov books.

    Thanks for sharing!

I also love the shadow effect that you put on the book. It looks really nice 🙂

  13. I have heard great things about this book lately and I’m glad I just bought a copy last week. It is so awesome when an author can capture the voice of a male character because we don’t get that very often in YA.

Can’t wait to read this one.
    Thanks for the great review!
