New Feature: Indie Spyglass

Posted 26 January, 2011 by Danny in / 6 Comments

We here at the Bewitched Bookworms love all genres of books. While we are ecstatic to review novels by established authors with tradition publishing contracts, some of the best books we’ve read lately have been written by Indie authors without them. These authors do it all, from writing the book, editing and formatting the pages, sometimes designing the cover art, and all of the exhaustive marketing.

Several Indie authors have approached us with their books over the course of the last year. Some have never been traditionally published, but their books have blown us away, like JL Bryan with Jenny Pox. Other authors have done the publishing house thing and found that being your own publisher is the way to go with your books, like Scott Nicholson. I’ve also stumbled upon other Indie authors by the recommendations of friends, fellow book bloggers, and faithful readers of this blog. I found Amanda Hocking’s Trylle Trilogy from a recommendation.

Once I’ve stumbled upon something fabulous, I love to spread the word and recommend the author and book to everyone who’ll listen. This new Bewitched Bookworms feature, Indie Spyglass, will bring Indie authors to your attention. There will be author interviews, guest posts, and giveaways.

And this is where you come in, dear reader. If you have an author, a book, that you think I should check out, feel free to email me (callofdutywidow@gmail.com) or comment on this post. I can’t wait to read some of your favorite Indie books and authors.

Authors, you can recommend yourself to me too. Just email me (callofdutywidow@gmail.com) and make sure you put Indie Spyglass as the subject. Or you can comment here as well.

Feel free to comment below to tell me what you’d like to see in author interviews. I’m looking forward to seeing your favorites.

Thanks for doing this, ladies. It's a great service, along with the rest that you provide.

My own entries would be "Cameo the Assassin" and "Cameo and the Highwayman" by Dawn McCullough-White (period paranormal adventure), and "Firefly Island" and "The Gods of Dream" by Daniel Arenson (Fantasy). I've read three of these, and love them all. As for "Dream", it's coming up soon in my TBR&R pile.

I've said it before…you ladies rock!

  2. This is such a great idea! I've read indie books before and I feel bad because they get no respect AND they prob work harder to try to get their book noticed. Can't wait for your first feature.

  3. Thats a great feature! I have enjoyed books by both J.L. Bryan and Scott Nicholson. I also have the three Trylle books on my Kindle awaiting my attention. I'm looking forward to finding more indie authors to read through this feature.

  4. Hi. I am awarding you the Stylish Blogger Award. Wasn't sure if you accepted awards or not, but at least I wanted to tell you how cool your blog is.
