Emmy’s best friend, Oliver, reappears after being kidnapped by his father ten years ago. Emmy hopes to pick up their relationship right where it left off. Are they destined to be together? Or has fate irreparably driven them apart?
Emmy just wants to be in charge of her own life.
She wants to stay out late, surf her favorite beach—go anywhere without her parents’ relentless worrying. But Emmy’s parents can’t seem to let her grow up—not since the day Oliver disappeared.
Oliver needs a moment to figure out his heart.
He’d thought, all these years, that his dad was the good guy. He never knew that it was his father who kidnapped him and kept him on the run. Discovering it, and finding himself returned to his old hometown, all at once, has his heart racing and his thoughts swirling.
Emmy and Oliver were going to be best friends forever, or maybe even more, before their futures were ripped apart. In Emmy’s soul, despite the space and time between them, their connection has never been severed. But is their story still written in the stars? Or are their hearts like the pieces of two different puzzles—impossible to fit together?
Readers who love Sarah Dessen will tear through these pages with hearts in throats as Emmy and Oliver struggle to face the messy, confusing consequences of Oliver’s father’s crime. Full of romance, coming-of-age emotion, and heartache, these two equally compelling characters create an unforgettable story.
Hey Everyone, Happy Friday and welcome to another round of my Top 5 Reasons why you must (yes, you must) read Emmy & Oliver. I really love creating these Top 5 Lists, so here you go!
A Missing, Kidnapped Friend who changes the life of so many… Gosh, can you believe the horror of your child, your best friend being kidnapped? It leaves a whole in the hearts and it changes you and everyone close to you! That what happened when Oliver disappeared. Little Emmy’s Life changed as she misses her best friend and all the parents in the community became so scared that they constantly worried…
And when your Best Friend comes back … everything changes Yet again! One day Oliver is being found and brought back to his mother (who of course, also has changed and has a new family…) Will Oliver find a place there? These situations were genuinely heartbreaking. Seeing how Oliver tries to find a place in this new life where everyone knew the old Oliver and not the new one. Emmy is thrilled – but also realised it won’t be as easy as it has been before.
Oh the chemistry – the wonderfully sweet connection these two shared! I absolutely adored the connection between these two as kids and these two as Teenagers. It was genuinely sweet and cute and had so many touching and heartbreakingly sweet moments.
When your reality is so different from that of those around you…. One aspect that should be mentioned is that Oliver didn’t life a hard life – he was with his father. And Oliver loved his father – so it’s incredibly heard for him to come back where everyone treats his father as a criminal, yet for Oliver it feels so different . And the only one who seems to understand is Emmy..

Connection, love and Family .. How strong are bonds once formed and how easy can you connect again? Hhonestly I loved this whole story so very very much. It had all the elements that made this story perfect and great. A touchingly moving story that will tear at your heart and the struggles that come after such a huge dramatic experience. But love can conquer so very much, and Emmy and Olivers bond and connection was just perfect!
Have you read other books by Robin Benway? I haven’t, but I definitely will after falling in love so hard with this story!
