The Competition:
Outlandishly wealthy Grandmother VanDemere has decided to leave her vast fortune to the family member who proves him or herself worthiest-by solving puzzles and riddles on a whirlwind race around the globe, from the mines of Venezuela to the castles of Scotland. There will be eight competitors, three continents . . . and a prize worth millions.
The Players:
Seventeen-year-old Avery is the black sheep of the VanDemere clan, the ostracized illegitimate daughter. Finally, she has a chance to prove herself . . . and to discover the truth about her long-lost mother.
Marshall might be Avery's uncle, but there's no love lost between the two of them. He's her main competition, and he'll do anything to win-including betray his own children.
Riley is the handsome son of Grandmother VanDemere's lawyer. As the game progresses, Avery falls hard for Riley. Suddenly, losing the game might mean losing him, too.
As the competition takes treacherous turns, it becomes clear there can only be one victor. Who can Avery truly trust? And is winning worth her life?
Happy Friday my Friends and today I’d like to tell you my Five Reasons why I think you should read or would enjoy Inherit Midnight by Kate Kae Myers!
The Setting and the Idea was brilliant and unique! Super rich Grandmother wants to find her true heir and sets up a competition to see who among her kinds and grandkids is worth carrying on her legacy. She was so fed up with her family who is full of people that are super selfish and don’t care at all about the family name. But Grandma VanDemere always hoped to teach them to be better, to raise above just being an “heir” who can spend all the money and does not have to work for it! So, she set up this super crazy competition that teaches them about their heritage and what it mean for their ancestors to actually raise all the money they are spending. Seriously cool idea!!!
The Black Sheep who teaches all these stuck up people what it means to be a VanDemere! Avery always felt it that no one really cared about her, saw her as a threat to the family wealth and name. She’s the “bastard” and unwanted kid and everyone always treated her so badly! Avery grew up with her Grandma and she really had a tough time there. But now, even if she would really just love to walk away from everything she’s “forced” to enter the competition and she learns so much about herself and also about her family. It was easy to connect with Avery and easy to love this girl and root for her to be the winner in this competition!
And .. now add in the dreamy guy and a sweet sweet romance! Avery is not alone, Riley the son of the family’s lawyer is standing by her site, cheering for her and supporting her. Of course… there is a sweet cute romance on the horizon, which I especially enjoyed in between all this adventure. Riley was a pure rock for Avery!
A bunch of quite unlikable character and some really surprising character developments! I really liked the mix of characters, where it was easy to dislike some of them but always some came with quite some interesting twists and developments.
A crazy Adventurs around the world! As I already said in the beginning I really loved the setting and plot development, but also I really loved that the story took as to so many different places and it was never really boring.
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Inherit Midnight by Kate Kae Myers was such a great, fun and faced paced story that came with such an unique setting. With a wonderful main character and a sweet romance this was a full-blown adventure not to be missed.
Any plans to read Inherit Midnight ? Do you also love Adventures that are set around the world?

The cover sold me right away, attracted me to your review. But I love your clever presentation, and you’re right, the premise is unique. This is a novel I would like to write, determining which of my unworthy heirs gets the pie. And to be in a position to teach them about life and the responsibilities of family. I’ve added it to my TBR.

Can I just say, I love your watercolor numbers! I’m a bit fascinated with watercolors at the moment (and getting the urge to redo my blog entirely…again. *sigh*). I do love when the settings are all over the place. Travel via books!!
