Lesley Livingston is the Author of the fantastic Wondrous Strange and the new Starling series and today here to promote the exciting and Grande Finale to Starling Series: Transcendent. As a Big fan of the series and Lesley I’m excited to be part of her promotional tour. And as I especially love the two heroes of the series I asked Lesley about them and .. as usually, her post completely amazed me!
Why did you choose the Fennrys Wolf and the Valkyrie as the heroes of the Startling Series.
by Lesley Livingston
I’ve been fascinated by Norse mythology ever since I was a kid in grade school and I found a book in the library called D’Aulaire’s Book of Norse Myths, which had all of these fantastical illustrations and stories of the gods and goddesses of the Vikings. I think I was the only kids that took that book out for a year because I kept renewing it over and over again. When I named one of my Janus Guard characters “the Fennrys Wolf” in my Wondrous Strange series, I kind of did it on a lark, fondly remembereing those tales. I didn’t really know at the time that I would wind up writing a whole other trilogy with Fennrys as the lead! But once that first story was finished, Fenn just refused to remain silent. He demanded that I tell his story, and that meant telling Mason Starling’s story. My reluctant Valkyrie.
And I’m very glad I got the opportunity. In the myths, I always thought Fenris (or Fenrir, in some versions) got the short end of the stick. Right from the start, the Aesir don’t trust him simply because of who his father is. They torment him, bind him, and then – when he finally gets free – his destiny is to be the death of Odin and the harbinger of Ragnarok, whether he wants to or not. And hey, I’ve always had a soft spot for the underdog. Heh.
As for twining his story around that of a girl who is reluctantly (really reluctantly – like, kicking and screaming) inducted into the ranks of the Valkyries, that just seemed to flow naturally. If Fennrys was to have any hope of escaping the prophecy of his foretold fate, he would need an ally as powerful as one the fabled Norse battle maidens, a chooser of the slain who could make the tough choices and kick some Ragnarok butt.
Too bad Mason is the target of her own dire destiny. One that virtually guarantees Fenn’s downfall.
I‘m extremely fascinated with Norse Mythology and I’m highly in love with Lesley’s take on bringing it together with my favorite genre YA Paranormal! And I absolutely LOVE Mason and of course Fenris which is why I asked Lesley about them!

On a storm-swept terrace high above the streets of Manhattan, Mason Starling holds the fate of the world in her hands as her beloved Fennrys lies bleeding at her feet, his life hanging in the balance. The ancient Norse prophecy of Ragnarok stands poised on the knife edge of fulfillment. Mason’s transformation into a Valkyrie—a chooser of the slain and the one who will ultimately bring about the end of the world—is complete. Still, she remains determined to thwart her father’s apocalyptic desires. Whatever is to come, it won’t happen because of what the prophecy foretold, or what Gunnar Starling has planned, or what the fates have already decided. What happens next will be up to Mason and the Fennrys Wolf. The world had better hope they haven’t reached the limits of what their souls and swords can survive.
Perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series, and set in the same universe as Lesley Livingston’s much-loved WONDROUS STRANGE trilogy, with roots in Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian, and Celtic myths and legends, this thrilling conclusion to the acclaimed Starling trilogy is filled to the hilt with sweeping adventure and soaring romance.
Grab STARLING Book 1 in the series now for only $1.99!

Quote from my Startling Review:
Starling comes with a phenomenal and thrilling set of characters. Girls can swoon over Fenrys and connect to Mason. The gorgeous New Yorker setting adds to an incredible story that only scratched the surface of an ancient lore. Starling will easily be one of my favorite paranormal series where I will eagerly await the sequel.
