Ten Tiny Breaths
Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, twenty-year-old Kacey and her fifteen-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. Struggling to make ends meet, Kacey needs to figure out how to get by. But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and he perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means that an explosive secret could shatter both their worlds.
Everyone who keeps taps on the recent most outstanding New Adult novels sure have heard about Ten Tiny Breaths, who got picked up soon after a self-publishing success by Atria books, who seems to get all the amazing New Adult novels like Slammed and Beautiful Disaster.
Quirky and full of Snark, but heartbreakingly broken!
Kacey was a phenomenal main character! She was incredibly strong, saving her sister by running away, leaving her own life behind and doing everything to care for her 15-year-old sister. The story starts with the two girls arriving in Miami and trying to stay hidden and moving on from their previous devastatingly sad life. Kacey is a character who rocks this book with her personality. She closed herself off after the car accident that killed her parents, boyfriend and best friend with her being the only survivor. There is no denial that this leaves horrible scars on Kacey’s soul and she hates being close to anyone but her sister.
But, she’s not just broken – she’s incredibly strong and her snark made me laugh so many times.
Beautiful Mysterious Stranger and deep relationships!
Of course, what would such a story be without a mysterious boy who is tracing to crack open the hard shell Kacey surrounded herself with. Trey was a wonderful boy. He was compassionate and didn’t give up even if Kacey constantly tried to push him away. He was determined to rescue this amazing girl! The romance was beautifully played and easy melted my heart.
But, the romance is not the only part which makes this story so outstandingly wonderful. K.A. Tucker developed all relationships in a  detailed and deep way, which just rounded up the novel so much more. There is friendship and family bons which are intensely explored and not left as a mere sidenote – it completed this haunting story!
Emotion, Passion, Heartbreak and lots of Angst
While we followed Kacey on her journey back to happiness tons of emotions will stir at your heart. There is passion, but also a lot of angst and heartbreak. Together with Kaceys snarky mouth it had the perfect combination of sadness and laughter. The big final twist was something I did see coming to some extent, but the final revelations shocked me to the core. It was incredibly smart played and made me anxiously awaiting how this all would end up!
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker is an incredibly  New Adult story, which brilliantly combines heartbreaking emotion, angst and passion with a phenomenally snarky heroine made of awesome. I laughed, I cried and was shocked to the core – it was a thrilling and intense story I wouldn’t want to miss!

This has been on my TBR list for awhile now. So many good NA books, so little time! Your review, though, helped vault this to the top of my pile.

This sounds great. I love that she left to get a new start – and brought her sister with her. Shows some inner character. But it’s also nice that there’s plenty of snark. Too much angst is a bad thing.

I just wasn’t sure about this one but I’m thinking I need to check it out! With a character who’s got scars but can still be all snarky in a funny way, that’s totally up my alley.

I don’t know where you keep finding all these fantastic New Adult books. It’s not really a genre I’ve been keen on, but every time I read one of your reviews of one, I’m a little more hooked!

First, I’m so sad the cover of this one changed! The other cover was one of the best covers ever and I was seriously in love with it and this one just looks like any other underwater cover IMO. Boo-urns! But it does sound great and I’m starting to get into this NA fad and there are pretty awesome gems to be found! I love love characters that have snark and it’S great that it didn’t take away any emotional output from the story as well! I really can’t wait to read this one I’m so happy you enjoyed it, Danny!

I love the title of this novel. I can’t help but think of a baby when I read it. I wasn’t sure what this one was about but I’m sold. I know you’re loving the New Adult so I trust you, especially when it comes to the romance. Seems like these days I have to have romance in my contemporary. Gald to know it met the Danny test!

I’m so glad to hear you like this book so much! I’ve been dying to read it since I first saw the synopsis no Goodreads. It seems interesting. Heartbreaking emotion, angst and passion are all great things in a book to me and to hear the heroine labeled as “phenomenally snarky” is amazing. I can’t wait to read this book. Great review!

wow. wow. wow. Everything I read about this novel screams at me to read it ASAP and I am going to have to get on that soon. I have to admit that this is a case where I liked the indie cover better than the pub one, which is weird because that never happens. I can’t wait to meet these characters! Fabulous review, Danny!
