Rivals and Retribution
Rivals and Retribution by Shannon Delany  on goodreads:ÂIn Rivals and Retribution, the fifth book in the 13 to Life series by Shannon Delany, Pietr and Jessie will find themselves caught in a pack war with a new breed of werewolves.
Jessie Gillmansen is in trouble again and she’s in for the fight of her life–and Pietr’s! With Marlaena’s dangerous wolf pack putting more pressure on the Rusakova family, change is inevitable and when it comes, it brings a heavy price that forces Alexi into action to save his youngest brother’s heart, head, and life. In the stunning conclusion of this celebrated paranormal series two werewolf families fight for control of the small town of Junction, control of each other and–most elusive of all–control of themselves.
All good things must come to an end, so does the 13 to Life series by Shannon Delany. This one of those series I followed right from the start and even though I have never been a big fan of werewolves, this series captured me with a wonderful set of characters and a thrilling fast paced story.
Wrap Me Up!
What is most important for me when finishing a series is that all storylines come to a closure and that I feel satisfied with the ending. Rivals and Retributions managed to wrap all the important events up in a nice satisfying ending. Even smaller stories were neatly tied up to leave the reader in a happy place, ready to let go of this story. As much as I hate endings of a good series, I do appreciate when I can actually feel good about moving on.
Get us back our Pietr
One of my main complain about the Destiny and Deception (Book )  was the incredible change of Pietr, who became a geeky nerd instead of this fierce alpha wolf male I loved so much in the first books! However, Pietr is forced to shift back and finally we all had Alpha-Pietr back. Thank.Goodness! However, it wouldn’t be the 13 to Life series when everything would be happily ever after now! Nope, Jessi still has to fear that they ever can be together and I found this additional storyline perfectly fitting! I liked that Shannon Delany, gave us not just an ending, but also a story line to focus on in this last installment!
Different POV and a rich cast of characters
The 13 to Life  series was definitely more character than plot driven, even though Shannon Delany did a great job in focusing on both part. However, I was mostly invested in the characters. Apart from the main characters we had a phenomenal set of secondary characters that managed to slowly crawled deeply into my heart. Especially, Pietr’s brothers Alexis and Max were complex and alluring characters.
Even more, Shannon Delany managed with the addition of several POV’s to bring us closer to those additional characters, which I highly enjoyed. However, I would have wished for Pietr’s and Max’s POV… ( I should get to ask Shannon Delany at some point about why she denied me this pleasure 🙂
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Great Series – Great Ending. The13 to Life series was one of those series that came with an action packed storyline that never could be considered boring. The lure of strong characters, lush and action packed stories wrapped in a nice paranormal environment made this series a great addition for everyone’s shelves.

I know, it’s so easy to get caught in to many other books and easy to forget about a series! I really enjoyed this series 🙂

Oh I didn’t know this was in the 13 to Life series. I’ve had that series on my wishlist for about a year haha. It sounds really good and I love that it concentrates a lot on the characters. That’s always a good sign for me. Great review, Danny!

Yep there are 5 books and some Novella’s and Shannon released them super fast! After book 1 she included multiple POV which spiced the whole story up even further 🙂

Danny, you did it again! I’ve met Shannon Delany twice now – most recently at the PAYA Festival this past weekend. I have a signed copy of 13 To Life on my bookshelf at home, but haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounded so good, though! Glad to hear the series wraps up well – that gives me more incentive to get started on this series!

OoOO You meet her? That’s so awesome! I truly would love to ask her why she never wrote Pietr’s or Max POV… I love those boys! YEs the series is great so is the ending 🙂 Enjoy!

There are 5 books in this series already? How did I get so far behind Danny! Glad to know this last book wraps the series up nicely and provides a satisfying conclusion, including getting alpha-pietr back:) I always go for the alpha men. Or the bad boys. Or the damaged and tragic ones. So clearly, if they’re male, I’ll go for them 😉

you forgot the nerdy ones, the geeky ones, the popular ones …
But yes ultimately I agree, as long as they are boys…
🙂

It is always nice when a good series wraps and comes to a satisfactory conclusion before it gets stretched too thin. I am glad to hear that this series does that!

I just skimmed this review because I haven’t read the earlier books in this series, because I hadn’t heard of it. But thanks for bringing it to my attention, now that I know it ends so strongly I may have to pick up book 1!
