Second Skin is the second book in the Skinned series and just came out in December! Today we have a special scene on the Blog where Eryn meets Alex for the very first time… even better the scene is written and told from his POV….
Alex sees Eryn for the very first time:
Kneeling on a bed of pine needles, I examined the tracks pressed deep into the earth. Unusually large pad, claws twice the normal length.
Another werewolf.
A low growl had me snapping my head up and toward the sound. Grayson, my half-wolf, half-Shepherd companion stood a few feet down the tree-lined trail, snarling into the shaded woods where the tracks disappeared.
It was close. Too close. Hunting its prey in daylight and sticking close to the human population meant we had another rogue on our hands.
Voices, muffled, but growing louder began to echo through the trees, underscored by the steady pounding of their feet. A gym class out on a run, cheerfully jogging on the trail behind the school – straight for their deaths.
I had to keep them safe. It was my job. My duty as a hunter.
Whistling for Grayson to follow, I stood, scuffing the clearest tracks with my hiking boots. Together we slipped into the thicket after the beast. Unarmed, I could only hope to drive the rogue further into the forest and away from the school. Rogues went after easy pickings, not prey that knew how to fight back. Once I scared it into running to underground, hiding in its den, Matt and I would return to finish the job.
Our pursuit was steady, Grayson and I weaved through the woods, alternately jogging or picking up the pace when he caught a clear scent. I almost forgot we were tracking a werewolf as memories of a simpler time flashed through my mind. My father, Matt and I hiking through these woods, before things went so horribly wrong. Before Iβd found my fatherβs body, flesh eaten, and decapitated by a windigo. Back when I thought our Hunter Council training made us invincible.
Grayson let out a high-pitched whine and veered to the right, shocking me into stumbling over a fallen log.
βWhat the hell, Gray, the trail leads this way,β I called out, but the wolf hybrid was lost in the scent zone. Heβd been trained to chase the unique rotting flesh odor of werewolves. I bit back a curse. This meant there might be two of them.
Charging after Grayson, I gave myself the lecture Iβd be giving Matt, my younger, usually the more foolish brother, if the situation were reversed. Going off alone into the woods after one werewolf was stupid – discovering there were two?
Suicide.
Concern for Grayson had me straining harder. If one of those things hurt my dogβ¦
I caught a glimpse of Graysonβs quarry as a slim form cut through the woods a few yards ahead, bolting forward at a brutal pace. A blood red hoodie swayed on narrow shoulders.
A quick look over the shoulder.
A flash of dark, daring eyes.
I sucked in a startled breath. Those eyes.
This was no werewolf.
Weβd tracked a girl.
And I meant to catch her.
Under My Skin
All her parents wanted was for Eryn to live a normal life…
Redgrave had its share of monsters before Eryn moved to town. Mauled pets, missing children. The Delacroix family is taking the blame, but Eryn knows the truth. Something stalks the night. Wade, the police chief’s son and Redgrave High’s resident hottie, warns her the Delacroix are dangerous. But then so is Eryn–in fact, she’s lethal.
But she can’t help falling for one of the Delacroix boys, dark, brooding–human Alec. And then her world falls apart.
A normal life? Now that’s the real fairytale
Second Skin
Sequel to Under My Skin. With FIENDS like Erynβ¦
Monsters. Bloodsuckers. The evil. The damned. Eryn McCain knows they existβ sheβs been hunting them since she was a child. At sixteen, sheβs ready to take on all comers. Being a shapeshifter gives her an advantage when it comes to her unusual part-time job. The hours suck and the pay is, well, non-existent, but bonuses like inhuman strength and night vision make tracking scary beasties a dream come true. Especially in a town like Redgrave.
When an ancient demon targets Redgrave High, Eryn and her crew of hunters must face their innermost fears to prevent the Harvest Moon Dance from becoming one serious Monster Mash. Loyalties are tested and temptations abound. With questions ever brewing, can Eryn share a future with the brooding, noble, human Alecβthe hunter after her heart? Or will she succumb to her enemyβs son, Wade, a seductive predator as bloodthirsty as she is?
What happens when youβre both the beauty and the beast?
