synopsis from goodreads:
On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.
A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies
Seeing the cover, the word Angels flows into my mind- instantly! I admit having a soft spot for Angel series, so I was more than eager to pick it up! And, I truly ended up liking it and enjpying it a lot!
The plot starts with Skype having her birthday and meeting two strangers Asher and Devin who couldn’t be more different from each other! But as usual the plot starts with a girl that has no idea about what she really is and two boys that will show her what she’s destined to be… Although, the plot seems like many other good novels we all have read already, I didn’t feel bored at all. There is always a new twist in the story and I loved the direction A Beautiful Dark is heading. And it’s not too spoilery to tell that we are talking about Angels here, yet again we have a different angle!
Skye’s parents are dead and she’s living with her aunt, who I truly adored! I loved the connection those two had! But when Skye learns the truth from Ash and Devin, she’s utterly alone and has no one to talk to expect the two boys, yet she never knows who to truly trust. I also loved her two best friends – who were really awesome secondary characters, but again our heroine leaves her friends in the dark.
Seriously… I would tell my friend and I never understand why our girls never tell their best friends what’s going on with them!
We have two mysterious boys that couldn’t be more different from each other. Asher is the dark, dangerous and of course super hot guy who is trying to get Skye’s heart! Well, needless to say he won mine in an instant! I just adore these stereotype bad boys with the good heart! As dark as Asher is, as light is Devin but still he’s also full of secrets and none of the boys truly fill Skype completely in – just bits and pieces…
As much as I loved Asher, I couldn’t connect fully with Devin.. I didn’t like him so much and I also didn’t feel how truly Skye would and could connect to him. Yeah… definitely Team Asher here!
When I was at BEA in May I was standing in line to get a signed copy. And I was lucky enough to get one because the only had around 75 copies, but yeah I made it! Funny enough, when standing in line waiting there was a nice lady standing behind me who was the mother from the cover designer! It was absolutely funny meeting and talking to her. Seing her so proud of her son was so so lovely! He was also the same designer that made the covers for “I am Number 4” and she shared some wonderful stories! I just wanted to share this with you since it was one of the awesome things that stuck to my mind from my time in NYC!
