I am so so freaking excited to host Julie Kagawa here on the Blog today with her newest bookish adventure TALON! Julie is on blog Tour right now, with some absolutely incredible posts and a chance to win one of her famous hand-made Dragon Figurines!
But first, I am even more thrilled to host Garret on the Blog so please welcome Soldier Garret at the Bookworms here today!
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Garret Xavier Sebastian, ID number 870012. I’m seventeen years and two months old, and I’m a rank five soldier in the Order of St. George.
The Order of St. George is an organization dedicated to hunting down and eradicating dragons hiding in human form throughout the world. We have several chapterhouses in countries where dragon activity is common; England, China, the United States. I’ve been with the Order of St. George nearly my whole life. My parents were murdered by a dragon when I was three. The Order rescued me and taught me everything I know today.
Why does the Order hate dragons so much? What makes them so dangerous?
We don’t hate them. We simply realize the enormous threat the dragons of Talon represent to the human race. Talon’s goal has always been world domination and the enslavement of all “lesser” species. They are dangerous because they are so long lived, and their plans can span decades, or even centuries. But what makes them truly insidious is their ability to blend into humanity, to mimic everything we do, while subtly influencing everyone around them. We cannot underestimate Talon, and this is a war we must win. The dragons must be eliminated to secure the future for all humans.
Getting away from the war and the Order of St. George for a moment, what do you like to do in your down time?
I enjoy reading, and sometimes I’ll play pool or darts in the Order’s rec room, but a lot of my free time is dedicated to training or working out. My partner Tristan is always trying to drag me to parties, but I don’t drink, so I don’t see the point. He has accused me of being a stuffy old woman on more than one occasion, but it doesn’t bother me. I’m a soldier of St. George. I have to be ready to fight at a moment’s notice.
And for the final question: if you could describe Ember in three words, what would they be?
Um. Ember Hill? You want me to describe her in three words. I don’t see the importance, but…okay. I guess if I had to pick three terms to describe Ember, they would be: cheerful, stubborn, and fearless.
Thanks for talking to us today, Garret. *Garret nods, waiting patiently.* Um…dismissed.
TALON by Julia Kagawa
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
About Julie Kagawa
Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.
To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.
Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive Papillon puppy.
Follow the Tour to get to know all the Characters from Talon and for more chances to win one of Julie’s amazing hand made Dragons!
