For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source – a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.

Thoughtless also comes highly recommended by all fans of Beautiful Disaster and Easy , which is why I picked it up int he first place! This series also has been picked up by a Simon & Schuster division only a day after I got the last self-pub copy at iBooks. 🙂

Torn between frustration and emotion!

No, this headline is not referring to the book but rather to my feelings after I finished this book! Normally I never start my review with talking about how I felt about a book, but here, I have to explain my emotions in order for you to get the full emotional turmoil this book left me in.

Because, I am freaking torn !

From an emotional level this book deserves more than 5 stars and even needs a cherry on top! This book made me freaking insane with emotions! And.. I think this will be the oddest review to write. Because, although I am tempted to give it 5 stars – I was so so soooo frustrated with the main character Keira. Hell, I didn’t even like her! I wanted to slap her so many times, good thing she’s not real! *frustrated*
She made one bad decision after the other, was not able to make up her mind, was not able to finally decide what she truly wants. She was naive .. yes she was very naive. She constantly hurt the boys that she loved and were in love with her, but she still wasn’t able to make up her mind! *frowns*

So no, I didn’t like her!

Intensity,  ground shacking emotions and lots of heartbreak

However, the book was absolutely phenomenal, and this I say even though I just ranted about how much Keira annoyed me! The emotional intensity was ground shacking, the hottness of the boys swoon worthy and the story although it was killing me… felt very very real!

I know we want our heros and heroines perfect, but the fact is, in real life relationships like Keira’s happen. People get hurt and sometimes it’s hard to watch from the outside and not screaming at them. But, people also have to make up their own mind and sometimes it’s just not .. that easy. There is no right or wrong.. it just is..

You are ready for your heart to be broken and to shed some tears?

You like heartbreakingly real romance? Stories that make you tear up, with characters that stick to you? Admit it, you even like to be frustrated. Because in the end, a book that makes you feel so much, so many different emotions is great book!

Some minor issues..

Well,  as this was  S.C. first novel and I think some editing could have improved the story! Some scenes could have been cut shorter since the story itself was already pretty long. The pacing suffered a little from these dragged out scenes. Also, some words were so repeatedly used that they started to annoy me, there wasn’t much variety. But, this is a wonderful touching and emotional book and I am eager to read the next books!!!

A continuation of the novel, Thoughtless…

A lot can happen in a year. You grow, you change, you learn from your mistakes. And Kiera had made a lot of mistakes to learn from. But she had learned, and she was determined to never cause a man pain again, especially the amazing man who currently held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it come out the other side unscathed?

Love is easy…trust is hard.

Apart from my annoyance with Keira in Thoughtless I was eager to pick up the next book, ready to spend some more time with Kellan and swoon over him.

Improvement in editing but not in pacing..

Starting right off with what irked me in the first book. The editing definitely improved so did the writing! It was actually amazing to see the difference between book 1 and 2 and I was excited to see such an new and much better voice and tone of the book. However, I felt like the whole story was just too long and I would have wished for shorter scenes and some scenes were just not necessary at all in my opinion. They didn’t add to the story. The feared and actually wished for drama came way too late. But.. when it came it hit me again with this strong emotions I already encountered in the first book…

Keira – growing up! But., Trust is to be earned…

I loved how Keira’s mature so much in this novel! She changed from being the naive little girl to a woman. Yet, Keira is still looking for her true self and is still suffering from insecurities. That was the main issues Kellan and Keira had to face in this novel. The way the came together made it hard for them to trust each other which was very understandable. However, both made such stupid mistakes that made me shake my head.

Kellan .. *swoon* *fans self* ….

Kellan is such a beautiful flashed out character. I haven’t mentioned him in the first review, but he needs to be addressed her! He’s insanely hot, the tortured soul that put everything in his music. but, there is more to him and there is so much depth in turmoil in this boy that made me love him even more! He broke my heart when the small boy inside him came out.

Effortless again made my heart fly with the beauty of love and romance and cry with heartbreak!

Bottom Line

Thoughtless and Effordless are intense! These books will make you cry out in frustration and then cry in heartbreak. An annoying naive main character together with the most beautiful tortured boy you could imagine! Again, a must read for fans of hot and steamy love that goes much deeper than the physical level!

Additional Notes

With all my complain about the second book, I am dying to get my hands on Reckless, which will be book 3 in this series! I cannot wait to meet Kellan again and spend time with this boy! I’m eager to see them succeed , but also struggle on their way to be together..

Much Love,

I hate it when the second book isn’t as good as the first – so disappointing! But I love books with musician characters, so I might need to pick this one up! 🙂

  3. Uh oh Danny, I’m not sure I’m emotionally equipped to handle book 1! Keira will clearly drive me absolutely insane, but then you make everything else sound so appealing that I don’t want to miss out! Torn is definitely an apt description, as I’m beyond torn after just reading the review!

  4. Hi Danny! Back to commenting! I’m excited to get back to the real world of blogging. Glad to see that you liked this book so much. I wouldn’t be tempted by the covers so it’s nice to know more information. I wonder what the S&S covers will end up looking like.

Alison!! So glad to hae you back!! Na, the covers are mediocre and as far as I can see from the other authors that have been picked up the covers will stay the same… I think they have very different deals, which is why the cover won’t be changed.

  5. I love feeling intense emotion from a book but I think my intense frustration with Keira would ruin it for me . She sounds like a very annoying and frustrating character. I think that I could maybe still love the books, but I would probably do lots of screaming and raging and throwing the book (not if I’m reading it on my kindle;). So I’m a bit unsure about them. But a huge congrats to the author for being picked up by a big publisher!

It was such an interesting read, emotionally for me! I loved Kellan and I loved the story – but Keira? Gosh that girl drove me nuts! But still the book was fantastic which is why I would always recommend these books! They need to be given a try 🙂

  6. It seems like Simon & Schuster is picking up a lot of these books! Beautiful Disaster didn’t work for me, but I’ve yet to try Easy, so I won’t cross this off the list just yet. 😉 I think it’s great when an author can draw so many different feelings from you. These books definitely sound intense!

    Great reviews, Danny. 🙂

Oh yeah BD is a love or hate book! I remember reading your review and I totally get why it didn’t work for you! This one is different but can also be controversial since Keira is having a BF when falling for Kellan…

but, I love such conflicting stories and emotions!

  7. I’ve actually heard really mixed things about this series, so I wasn’t really sure whether I wanted to give it a shot or not. From what I’ve heard, the main character is extremely annoying with her disability to choose between the 2 guys. I’m glad this worked for you though. You seem to be really enjoying the New Adult Genre! 🙂

    Lovely reviews, Danny!

As much as she annoyed me I did get her problems with choosing! There was the save choice and the risky one and she clearly loved both, even though for different reasons. But at some point I just saw the right choice and was actually getting really mad.
    Argh!
But… I LOVED the book in the end!

  8. Here’s the thing–a book might annoy me with edits or phrases or repeated actions but if I still want to pick up the next book by that author, then he/she’s done something right. Sounds like this is something that might be right up my alley! I have to say–I kinda like the covers, too!

yes that’s exactly my point! Even though the writing could have been better and some phrases annoyed my and nearly drove me nuts I LOVED the book and couldn’t get enough of those characters!

I actually love to feel so conflicted about these books! 🙂

  10. I’m gonna have to have my NA with a little less crying thank you. And one more doll.
If it’s got that much romance and only three dolls from you, not gonna try it. Especially with all the crying. But God do I love to hear all these self pub people being picked up by the big publishers because you know they’ll edit the slow pacing and extra scenes out and the end result will be a lot more people talking about the books. So thanks for wading through these emotional books for us! I’m sending you virtual tissues and some lotion for your nose in case it is sore. I love your NA reviews!

LOOOL… nope, crying is involved! A lot lool:)
The 3 dolls are only for book 3 which was good but the pacing was horrible… Still, the first book was AMAZING and I can highly recommend the first book! Truth is, once you read the first you’ll want to read the second and even the third!
Even though I was not so happy with the 2nd I will sooooooo read the third when it comes out!

Thanks for the hugs and tissues! *hugs*

  11. Well I think there’s something to be said for a book that can make you feel such strong emotions, haha! I’m glad you (kind of?!) loved the first book… Sorry it went a little downhill in the second for you. Hopefully the character development in Keira is even more pronounced in Book 3… but if not, at least you’ll have Kellan to tide you over 😉 Great reviews, Danny! <3

Oh yes I really loved the first book! *giggles* I guess I didn’t make myself clear enough… I was so conflicted and torn that it might have overshadowed how I really felt about the book! Oh and I cannot wait for book 3 , it will be interesting to see how much the author has progressed from there!
