Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is…

I believe you know how it is: You finish one awesome book  from an author, then you have this strong feeling of withdrawal which leads to you investigating all her  or his other books to get back this awesome feeling while reading her/his books.

Yes, it happened to all of us and this is how I ended up reading Obsidian, although I couldn’t care less about Aliens at first. But I did care so much for Mrs Armentrout who enchanted me with her writing! Yesterday, I told you how much I loved her first book Half-Blood and now I’m going to tell you how much I loved Obsidian!

Sweet Katy – who is not afraid to talk back..

Katy is a Book Blogger which I found super cute! She always threw in references like Oh its Wednesday, I have to put together a quick WoW. It was cute and sweet and of course for me easy to connect with her. But that’s not it, Katy also is very strong although she wouldn’t let herself say it out loud – but she is strong and I loved her instantly. Besides, she managed to not kill Daemon for what she deserves respect!

Daemon! You never met a character like him before..

He’s an ass, a jerk – he’s outrageous but.. underneath all this bad attitude and bad-assery (I’m beginning to love this work) he’s also super hot – swoon worthy hot! At the same time there is something about his attitude that makes you want to stick to him and figure out why the heck he’s such an ass. Seeing him interact with his twin sister Dee (who’s a sweetie!) and seeing him so super protective makes you wish to look into him deeper and discover what he has hidden.
Truly. He was an incredible character and blame the awesome talent that is Jennifer L. Armentrout who managed to create a jerk that you sill want to get to know deeper.

Aliens, Love, Friendship and secret societies.

Yep, I believe we have everything here what we’d need for a good story and damn it – it was such a page turner! In the beginning the only thing we want to know is Daemon’s secret and why he’s such an ass. Then, the more and more we learn about him, his sister and the others we want to learn more. The story was very fast-moving with lot’s of scenes that were thrilling, romantic and mesmerizing! The story and the plot managed to grab me and soon after a few pages there was no way I would be able to put it down until I knew the end.
Plus…there was hot ass Daemon in the story …

Bottom Line

This was an epic tale of YA SciFi Alien story with epic characters and a thrilling intense plot! Katy was sweetness and easy to love and Daemon was like no other character before, bad attitude – outrageous but I still managed to fall deep in love with him! Like really deep….
So, I tell you all have to meet Daemon because you don’t want to miss figuring him out. I fall head over heals in love with Jennifer L. Armentrou first when reading Half-Blood but it ended up in a full-blown love after Obsidian! She’s an awesome storyteller and I can’t freaking wait for more!
Additional Notes: Shadows is a Novella (she said a long novella ) which is set before the happenings of Obsidian is out and available since yesterday!!. But I strongly recommend reading it after you read Obsidian! I believe it would spoil a lot of fun and discoveries for you. Onyx, Book 2 comes out in August – which seems horribly far away… but I saw on Twitter that Jennifer L. Armentrou will be at BEA in June – I’m sooo excited to meet her and I try to act mature and not like a fangirl!

Much Love,

Elodie! You NEED to meet Daemon, like yes, seriously and right now! He's such a contradicting character, such an ass but intriguing at the same time! I'm looking forward hearing what you think about it!

I enjoyed this one too, I loved the cute little bloggie references. Yes Daemon is a big pain in the ass jerk but he grows on you, my only let down was I loved the mystery building on what they were, I kind of wish it wasn't revealed in the synopsis that they were aliens. I thought the story faltered a bit after the big reveal it wasn't quite as exciting. All in all though a good read. I have to say I think I like the cover you picture better than the U.S. version. Happy Wednesday Danny!

Oh I loved the Book Blogger reference too! So cute :))

*sigh* I do agree with you on the Aliens thingy – it would have been even more awesome to discover this along with Katy. I hate when they reveal too much in a synopsis. Same was with Wildefire, the book would have been much more awesome if we wouldn't have know right away with which paranormal species we were dealing with.

And I think those are the new covers! They changed it and I really like those new ones better too!

  3. Hmmm…. Did she change the cover for book one? It looks a bit different. Anyhoo, I was just saying earlier that I have yet to read anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout, but I just won a copy of Shadows this morning. Now I'll take your advice and read book one first. Thanks for the tip, Danny. I'm so excited that you're going to be meeting the author soon. 🙂

Yes they did change the covers from this series. The first cover was more bold, more neon and I personally prefer those new ones!

YEAH for winning Shadows, I'm also going to get it right now so that I can start reading! I haven't read it yet, but I'm certain that you first should read Obsidian, don't even read the synopsis and spoil anything for you! I'm excited to see what you think of Daemon… he might be a good candidate for a Book Boyfriend? Although the Cover Model is quite fitting :)) Hope you'll love it!

  4. I really enjoyed this book too! I was surprised because generally I hate when the love interest is a jerk like that. But I totally fell for him!

Hehe is not even a Jerk I think he's even more than this but I'm so happy you loved it anyway! I really think Daemon is different and there was always something about him that made you pause and realize he's deeper than he admits.

  5. Danny,
You have to put warnings out when I click on your page and there is this gorgeous face staring at me! I almost yelled for someone to come look at him and then realized the three guys in my house wouldn't care. He is fine! Breathtakingly so! I don't care what his story is, I'm reading it! I love that Katy says, until he opens his mouth….How many guys have I met like that. Usually they were talking to my sister, but still! I love your enthusiasm for this author. I will definitely be picking up these books!

*giggles* I'm specifically proud of this Featured Slider I have to admit. I LOOOOVE his eyes and the face, this cover model is perfection! And alone for this one has to read this book!

Daemon is definitely something else and I loved the way I felt so conflicted about him. He was such an ass sometimes so rude I couldn't believe it but then…there had to be something about him and I wanted to figure out what!

This author is amazing and I hope to see you picking them up! You will love them!

  6. I also fell in love with Armentrout after reading Half-Blood! I'm reading Pure next and then I think I will give this one a try. I have to admit the aliens initially threw me off (I'm not usually a fan) but I got over that about 1/2 way through your review!

You shouldn't be scared of by the Aliens theme. I'm also not a fan of Aliens which is why I didn't pick up in the beginning. But then after reading Half Blood I wanted to read more from this author and I looved every page! I hope you'll give it a chance anyway because damn it, you have to meet Daemone!! *swoons*

SO many books, so little time! But you have to make time for this one- really ! Plus, the Kindle is not that expensive, it's only $6. On the other side you are right, being able to read them closer to the release of the other one would be frat too! And.. I'm happy I made you wanting to read it!! *hugs* :*
