Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.
Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.
This is a New Adult Monday Review
.. a Feature where we will review and talk about New Adult books! If you are not familiar with this term, you can read my New Adult Discussion post!
What I found most exciting about Losing It (the first book from Cora Cormack) was that it stood out among all the New Adult angst ridden romances with its lighter and funnier tone. I was hoping to find myself similarly amused with Faking It….
10 minutes and you burst out laughing!
Yes!! It was exactly what I hoped, because after only 10 minutes in the book I was sitting here and was laughing my a** off! Literally! I was having a big goofy smile on my face and was laughing out lout! After this, I knew I was going to love this book as Cade and Mac already managed to get a place in my heart and got an excited cheerleader for them.
But,, it was not just light and fun, there were also some more serious issues and deeper emotions that played an important part in this novel. Again, Corma … managed to mix laughter with some more serious issues in a wonderful mix of New Adult romance.
Cade – Oh golden Boy!
Many of us will remember Cade from being in love with Bliss (Losing it) and in the beginning of Faking It, he’s still heartbroken that Bliss is now with Garrick. Max always calls Cade “Golden Boy” because he’s just perfection. Driven, gorgeous and ,perfectly well mannered. Even though this sounds boring, Cade is anything but! Yes, he is the nice guy but there is also something dangerously sexy and hot about him, and Cade can also be a little rough! I loved this combination and I loved Cade so freaking much! (Yes, I loved him more than Garrick!) With Max – Cade finally can let loose and step out of his normal life. She was a challenge and exactly what he needed!
Mac – Oh Angry Girl!
Max is an amazing outstanding protagonist!!! See, usually we have the Bad Boy, the one who is a rock star and moody and inked all over his body. Well, imagine this on a girl and you have Max! She dyes her hair in everything from pink to blue and her boy is full of gorgeous body art. Yeah she’s sexy as hell! But… Max is struggeling with the death of her sister and a family who wants nothing more than having the perfect girl, yet Max isn’t what her parents hope for.
For Max, Cade is anything she wanted to run away from, but then she is incredible drawn to this boy because he stirs emotions in her she haven’t felt ever!!
Those two together were explosive!!! I loved their interaction because they were hot, sexy and they were constantly challenging each other. LOVED them together!! The only complain I have would be that the ending came way to fast and felt incredibly rushed…
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Faking It by Cora Carmack was explosive, fun, hot and romantic! Mac and Cade were two outstanding characters where the usual Bad Boy – Good Girl stereotypes were reversed! As much as I loved Losing It, Faking It was even better with a light and amazing humor wrapped in a sexy and hot love story!
