synopsis from goodreads:
When you can see things others can’t, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.
Clarity “Clare” Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It’s a gift.
And a curse.
When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare’s ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case–but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare’s brother–who has supernatural gifts of his own–becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
This was a quick and awesome read!
First: isn’t the cover awesome? I absolutely love the girl and the colors and just everything. Seriously this was one of the books I would have picked up just because of the cover-awesomeness.
Clarity tells the story about Clare (who refuses to use her beautiful real name Clarity) who lives with her brother Perry and her mother. All of them are have special psychic abilities. Clarity (love that name…) can get visions by touching objects. Needless to say life isn’t easy for her and and she and her family are the town freaks. She doesn’t have much friends and er best friend is her bother.
Which leads me right into their relationship. I loved this sister and brother relation, it was sweet, strong and genuine. They love each other deeply and I found this beautifully described.
Meet Clarity, the fun, brave and strong girl!
The most remarkable is Clarity, from which’s POV the story is told. She is brave, funny and a real strong person. I absolutely loved that! She wasn’t insecure and truly determined.
What made this story so fresh was the setting: a small town on the beach during the summer break – no high school drama. Two thumps up for that! Also, Clare just broke up with her BF because he cheated on her. Meaning we get a girl that is already beyond the first love which makes it also very refreshing for me.
Now, add in some mystery and suspense!
I love the combination of a good mystery ( in this case here a murder case) and supernatural abilities. The story line was captivating and kept me on edge the whole time. I needed to figure out who was the murder. I had theories over theories and in the end I was just wrong. Again, Two Thumps up for surprising me here!
My second fav character was Perry, Clare’s brother. He was so different than Clarity but all the same lovely. Actually, I fell in love with him! We meet him in the beginning of the story where he’s strong and carefree, but see him change when he gets arrested for being the murderer. He truly did some stupid stupid things but still, I love him.
We get some pretty decent kisses and we are once again caught in a Triangle. Although, I don’t need Triangles and actually prefer not to have them I don’t care so much here.
Bottom Line
Loved this book and most of all I love Clarity’s voice. Clarity with her personality and the mystery rocked the book! Full of strength, bravery and fun.
With around 250 pages this is a fast read but absolutely worth every page and
I will definitely read more from Kim Harrington!

I think it sounds like a refreshing read. Among all of the dystopians that are coming out, not that I don't LOVE them, it's nice to get something mysterious in the mix.

Why I'd want to read Clarity? Aside from the fact that it's been making the rounds of the blobosphere and has really piqued my interested because so many people are saying it's good? …Can't think of any reason other than that, really. I'd love to be able to give it a try.

If I'm honest, I want to read it because of your review – I've seen the cover around, but didn't know much about the book, and I finally decided there's been a lot of chatter since it came out, and I clicked on your link – didn't know what I was missing! Sounds amazing!

I can't wait to read, because I just finished Kimberly Derting's The Body Finder & Desires of the Dead. It sounds similar & I really loved them. Also it is a different than the typical paranormal. The reviews I've makes it sound like a clean read and I always looking for books to share with my tween. I would have already bought it, if they had it Walmart. I feel dirty saying that, but Borders is closing down near me–no new released books. So pick me–Amy D bookgoonie(at)yahoo(dot)com

First you said you loved Clara from Unearthly and then I read that and completely agreed. Now you're saying Clarity is a great character and I believe you 100% I want to read Clarity now so I can meet her. I also love what you said about the brother/sister relationship. We hardly ever get to see that in YA. Plus, a mystery that stumped you? Yes please!

Have to say, the cover is eye catching, but I can't get over that "glare" in the picture…somehow it irks me. As for the story, sounds like Clarity is one strong girl….not always the case with female lead characters. Ah..the brother…sounds like someone has a bookish crush. ^_^ Great review.
As for why I'd like to read this book….for the exact reasons you mentioned actually. It's not often you see a strong females character written this way….sounds good. ^_^
