Book I in the Vampire Academy Spin off
Publication: August 23rd 2011 by Razorbill
Book got at BEA (from Heather…wooot)
amazon (Hardcover, Kindle)

synopsis from goodreads

The first book in Richelle Mead’s brand-new teen fiction series – set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive – this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.

Fantastic! This was the first book I read from all the awesomneness I got at BEA, but I needed to read this one here first …

For all the fans of the Vampire Academy this is a must-read!

I was so heartbroken after finishing The Vampire Academy especially since I fell in love with Adrian. This troubled, eccentric boy who is constantly smoking or drinking and doesn’t care a bit what someone else thinks about him. Seeing Rose break his heart, broke my heart and I couldn’t be so happy for this ending of the Vampire Academy.

Now! We get the Bloodlines series! Thank you so much Mrs Mead!

Strong awesome and deeply developed characters …

…who seem so real and that easily find a way into your heart… The story is told from Sidney’s POV, the alchimist that appeared before and helped to rescue Rose. She’s a strong girl and such a different voice when compared to Rose. Sydney is a thinker, a smart intelectual girl that struggles with how she was raised and how she begins to feel.

The world is not black and white…

Alchemist hate Vampires and just deal with them to keep humans save, but Sydney knows deep down in her heart that the world is not black and white, yet she struggles hard with what her heart tells her and how she was raised. A wonderful voice, I love Sydney! Strong determined, smart but innocent and naive.

Oh and for those wondering: The story is told from Sydneys POV, not 3rd person perspective.

Bottom Line..

Awesome cast of characters, great plot line that is connected to the Vampire Academy but still is completely it’s own story! I love love LOVE that Adrian is part of this book and if he’s not getting his HEA … well I don’t know what I would do, but he better be happy…

Perfect kick-off in a new series that will get you hooked instantly and you will fall in love with those deep and wonderful characters!

Random Notes and additional info:
I saw the question of the narration floating around so let me clarify:  The story is told from Sydneys POV, not 3rd person perspective.

You can easily read this series even though you haven’t read The Vampire Academy yet. But – you might want to start VA after all, because they are awesome 🙂 There are 6 books planned, and the next one “The Golden Lily” comes out May 1st.
