Welcome to this final instalment of our Love Letter Event. Jenny from Supernatural Snark were celebrating the “loooooveee” with you and some of our favorite Authors!
Last year has been amazing, so we are super excited to have this event back for 2015!
And today we are excited to kick off a whole month full of Love!!
Jenny and I are both big fat suckers of romance, and if a story doesn’t have some tiny bit of romance we usually don’t fully enjoy the book. We love to swoon over the boys and we love to feel the butterflies of first love and intensely touching romance! For each Friday in February two authors is going to share a Love Letter with us, which you can find here at the Bookworms and at Supernatural Snark. This will be either from the author to one of her characters or between characters. And, we can assure you that this is going to be swoon worthy wonderful!
So to kick off the event I welcome Heather Demetrios today for her Love Letter.
Heather shares a heartbreaking Love letter with us from her to her main character in I’ll Meet You There – Josh.
In I’ll Meet You There Josh came back broken and lost from war and finds his way back when he meets Sky, it’s such a heartbreakingly beautiful story!

*wipes away some tears*
Dear Josh-
Thank you for letting me write you. Thank you for telling your story through me. Before I met you, I would have felt sorry for you, and angry at the war for taking away your leg. But I wouldn’t have really seen you. You would have been another nameless Marine caught up in the complicated War on Terror. I would have been angry for you, especially after I learned you were only nineteen years old. I would have shook my fist at the heavens. But after that, I would have just gone back to my life and forgotten about you. But because I had to get in your head and your heart, I couldn’t forget you if I tried.
I spent over two years bringing your story to the world. I hope I did right by you. I hope you feel like I left it all out on the field. I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I could write you honestly. I mean, you burp and drink too much beer and stare at girls’ boobs. Gross! But you also have nightmares about the bomb that took your leg away and about your friends you lost in Afghanistan. That stuff made me forget you were a dude and made me realize you’re a real person, complicated and hurt and hopeful.
The funny thing about being a writer is that when you’re done with a book, your characters feel so real. I feel like there’s a flesh and blood you out there, hanging out with Sky and living your life. I hope there’s an alternate reality where that happens, where the characters we love actually exist because so much was put into their creation. Almost like Tinker Bell: if we clap, will you exist? Writing you has forever changed me. It made me a better writer, gave me a bigger heart, and opened up my eyes to a world I’d avoided for a long time. It helped me understand my dad better and what it means to grow up with two parents who were Marines. I’ll never forget that you gave me that.
More than anything, you’ve given me the most fulfilling journey of my life and I’m happy that when I miss you, all I have to do is open up my book. And there you’ll be, smiling that slow, easy smile of yours, a beer in your hand, and an empty chair waiting right next to you.
Love,
Heather
Oh damn… isn’t this completely moving and touching? If I wouldn’t love Heather already so much and if I wouldn’t have loved the book already so much I would have run to get it right now!!
Gosh that was so emotional!

If seventeen-year-old Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom—that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she’s ever worked for is on the line.Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper.

THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I’m obsessed with this feature you and Jenny are doing. It really is the best thing ever. I loved this book to pieces, obviously, and though Josh infuriated me, Heather really truly brought him to life. I could tell how much she put her heart into this book. I think Josh and Sky are real and happy living their lives together with their dog. LOVEEEEE.

I absolutely love this event! I am a big sucker for romance and I also can’t read a book or enjoy it without a little romance in it. I can’t wait to read more love letters from authors to characters, between characters (definitely between characters), its going to be awesome! I’ve never read a love letter from an author to a character, it really was touching and gave me more of an insight as to the life of an author and how authors feel about the characters they write about. Now if only people still gave love letters in the real world *sigh*

This letter gave me goosebumps and now I want even more to read the book and meet this character (that considering the fact that I already had planned to read this story).

To be honest, I wasn’t so sure that I wanted to read this one. It sounds amazing, don’t get me wrong, but this is one of those books that I have to be in just the right kind of mood for, and that is not an easy one for me to find. After reading the letter, though?! My opinion has changed. How could it not?!
