Jessica Sweet thought going away to college would finally make her free of her parents’ constant judgments and insistence she play chastity club role model for their church events, but if anything, the freedom has made her realize she can’t go home and be a hypocrite anymore. Tired of dodging their questions, she stays at school over the summer and lands in an unexpected crash pad: Riley Mann’s house. Sarcastic, cocky, and full of opinions, Riley is also sexy personified with tattoos and biceps earned from working as a roofer all day. Not the right guy for her even if Jessica was looking for a relationship, which she is definitely not. But Jessica knows that Riley hides the burden of having to raise his younger brothers behind that grin and as she helps him get his house in order for a custody hearing, they begin to fall hard for each other, and she is forced to question what she’s hiding herself. Jessica has never had a problem getting naked with a guy, but when it comes to showing Riley how she truly feels inside, her fear of rejection may just ruin the best thing—the best guy—to ever happen to her…
After reading TRUE from Erin McCarthy earlier this year, I was super excited and did a little happy dance when I heard that there is going to be Companion Book focusing in Tyler’s big brother and one of Rory’s friends.
Jessica – Sweet with a lot of snark and attitude!
Admittedly, I couldn’t remember much from TRUE, only that she was one of Rorys best friends. But that didn’t keep me from connecting with her super fast! Coming from a rich house you’d think of Jessica being different, but all her life she struggled to be free of the tight boundaries of her parents and her brother. I loved her attitude a lot, she was a free spirit who likes to talk big and just tried to life her one live despite her parents who want to push her into doing what they want. I guess, Jessica is not everyones type, but she was mine:)
Riley – Holy Hottness – filled with a Heart of Gold!
Oh Girls! Riley will most definitely win you over! He was my absolute highlight! He comes with a rough package, tattoed all over his delicious muscled body and with a lot of attitude. He talks back, is full of snark and doesn’t take crap especially from Jessica. Which is pretty new for her … But Riley has a lot on his plate, as he has to care for his brothers. He’s brother, father and caretaker in one and it takes a lot of heart and willpower to do all this despite his young age. What 20 something year old would sacrfice his own happiness and life plans to raise a Kid with Down Syndrome and a closed up 10 year old. You have to admire Riley only for this and he would do anything for his brothers. Gosh, it warmed my heart so much thinking about this boy with the rough shell and beautiful heart!
Sizzling Romance!
You wouldn’t think those two wouldn’t be the best fit, and neither do they think like this. But their is so much chemistry between them that it was nearly jumping out of the pages! They were perfect for each other and I loved following them coming to terms with their attraction and their feelings! And, gosh girls falling for Riley is so easy!
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
Sweet by Erin McCarthy was lots of sweet and lots of awesome!!! Riley is a wonderful, wonderful boy with a strong attitude but a heart of gold and the chemistry between him and Jessica was sizzling and full of tension!

While it does sound good, it also sounds an awful lot like the first in this series. Not knocking what works — especially a hot, tatted guy who looks out for his brothers — but a bit more variety would be nice.

Oh I get your point, but the characters made it entirely different, I didn’t had the feeling of reading a book twice.
But to be honest, New Adult is always on repeat somewhere, which is why I only read selected New Adult titles ..

I don’t always read books like this one, but when I do.. 😉 I prefer them to be hot and sizzling with chemistry, of course! 🙂 I definitely need to look into this series, especially since you loved it so much! Thanks for sharing!

Oh absolutely this series is one of my favorites! It’s not completely drown in angst and there is a lot of fun and earnest relationship drama! Plus, Riley is super hot!

I got the first book, then ended up not reading it because of all the mixed reviews, but it sounds like I might have made a mistake.
Riley sounds like an amazing guy despite being all tatted up and I always love a guy who can look after his family.
Great review, Danny!

Oh I didn’t read too many reviews about TRUE, but I really liked it! It was a fast and great read and not full of angst like all the other NA. Sure, a little angst but not too much:) Riley is such a wonderful boy who loves his brothers so much that he’d do anything for them. It’s heartbreaking!

LOVE, LOVE THIS SERIES! Sweet wasn’t quite a strong as True, but I am not a fan of Erin McCarthy. I cannot wait for the next book in this awesome series!

I loved both books and I’m not sure which one I like more to be honest! I loved the innocence of Rory in TRUE, but I also loved the way Riley was with Jessica in SWEET. The next book is going to be awesome, I feel it! The boy’s name is Phoenix …WOT!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Jessica or not Danny given when we meet her she’s sleeping with Rory’s love interest in True, but if you say this book is awesome then I know I’ll love it. Plus, I LIVE for antagonistic relationships, and I can tell Riley and Jessica have a fantastic one. So excited to give this a try!

I still need to read New Adult books. Can you believe I haven’t read anything from the genre yet? This sounds like a lot of fun. I should read the first one first. It is funny how a lot of kids from very restrictive homes go off to college and go crazy with all the freedom. Does that happen much in Germany?
