After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
This was an phenomenal read with the most amazing heroine ever! Epic Fantasy as its finest! And Epic is the best word to describe this book of wonderment”
You love kick ass heroines!! Then meet Celaena
Celaena is an assassin who lost her parents at the age of 8 and was trained to be the world most famous assassin. But, she’s much more than a cruel killer. Celaena is beautiful, smart , she loves to read and plays music – even more, despite what her upbringing would suggest she loves to be a woman. She knows she’s beautiful and is not playing the ugly duck, nor does she needs a man to tell her so. I loved everything about Celaena – she was kick ass strong, yet there is a vulnerable side on her. In the end, she’s still a girl although the most feared assassin ever seen. She loves to wear beautiful gowns and loves the looks she get from the men surrounding her. Sarah J. Maas did an outstanding job creating this perfect to goodness heroine!
Fantastic World Building – enough to tease and not too much to be overbearing..
The world building was another aspect that made this story simply perfect! I loved the descriptions of the world and it was easy to imagine this fantastic world before our eyes. The world is ruled by a cruel king who banished all magic out of the world and conquered every continent and land out there. He’s vicious and not above killing everything that stands in his way. There is a hind of magic coming along, which makes me even more excited to see what is yet to learn about this world!
Let’s talk about the boys! Oh the boys!
There is the Prince Dorian – and despite what you would expect with a cruel father like his, he’s amazingly awesome! Smart and wonderful he clearly has a heart and a soul. It’s easy to fall in love with him. Very easy! Choal – the Captain of the Guard is a another player for Celaena’s heart, yet he’s a brooding character not easy to fall for – but he makes Celaena stronger. I loved him just as much! It will be hard to decide on a team just yet, which is a unique situation since I’m very easy to pick teams!
Action, Fights, Mystery and Romance!
The plot was absolutely great, I loved the combination of fight, action and the mystery behind the murders. But even more, there lingers the promise of magic and it’s on Celaena to discover if there is really and truly still magic in the world and if the Fae truly disappeared completely! This promise of more, of magic and Fae made the story even more perfect – it was not yet overly pronounced but we are certain that there is more to come, more to discover and more secrets to be revealed! And I am excited to follow this path together with Celaena!
This was epic fantasy – thrilling, gripping and beautiful. With mysteries to be discovered and a promise of more epicness to come! I loved every second I spend with Celaena and I can’t wait to step back into her live and follow whatever journey lays ahead of her !I’m amazed and In love!
There is a set of eNovella’s availabe which all play before the happening in Throne of Glass. In total there are 4 short stories which lead to Throne of Glass. The minute I finished Throne of Glass I got those Novella’s. I wanted to know more about this girl and her past, and upbringing! Those stories are perfect for just this! However, I have to say that the Caelena we meet in these Novella’s is slightly different. I little more spoiled and careless. But her development to the woman we meet in Throne of Glass totally made sense to me!
The first 3 are out already and the last one is going to be released in July they say… there is no date available yet.
Last but not least. I want to share this awesome trailer with you guys!!!!
Do you like Fantasy? Kick ass heroines? Plan to read this one?

As shallow as this may seem, I want to buy this book just to have that gorgeous cover. I love the beautiful background and the cover model has the most stunning blue eyes I’ve ever seen.
Alright, I admit that the plot does intrigue me. I haven’t read a good assassin book since Grave Mercy and I can’t wait to finally meet Celeana. She definitely seems kick-ass and thank goodness for a heroine who finally knows that she’s pretty and doesn’t pretend to be plain!
The boys seem absolutely delicious. I have a feeling I’ll have a tough time choosing between them as well !
Eeeep ! There’s a lot of action ! 😀 😀 I can’t wait ! 🙂
Oooh! I have this from NetGalley! I can’t wait to read it! I guess I should get the novellas first. I love the sound of who Celaena is! What a perfect combination!
You can’t pick a team??? They must be some great guys!
Awesome review Danny!
I LOVE your review! I’m seriously dying to read this book! I didn’t get it from Netgalley but I have a copy preordered and can’t wait to get my hands on it. 🙂 I read the first two chapters on Facebook and was immediately hooked! Ashley recently posted..The Lost Code by Kevin Emerson
Yay, I was waiting for you to post your review for this book after you featured it as your Friday Love before, and it kind of makes me giddy to see you love it in so many words! x) I DO love kick-ass heroines (especially ones that don’t need a man to tell them that they’re beautiful) — although having a prince the Captain of the Guard pining after her too doesn’t hurt at all! :’)
This book is phenomenal!! My dear Danny <3 what an amazing review!!

So glad you liked this. It seems like everyone is raving about this book. Isn’t it funny how you have two books about teenage assassins coming out so close together (Grave Mercy being the other one). Alison (AlisonCanRead) recently posted..Author Interview: Lindsey Leavitt of A Farewell to Charms
I just got this one this week (the UK cover though – I can’t decide which I like best.) and I’m seeing SO many awesome things being said. I can’t wait to meet these sexy boys (I always look for those parts in the reviews first hahaha). But it looks really well written and thanks for the heads up on the novellas!!
Your review is enticingly amazing!! I’ve read the first 3 novellas, and it’s crazy how Celaena has become one of my favorite YA protagonists even before TOG is officially released!! I loved the sweet kiss in The Assassin and the Underworld… are the TOG boys even hotter than Sam?
I’m SO SO SO excited to read this so I’m happy to hear it does not disappoint! I’ve heard the netgalley copy has some missing parts, did you notice it? If so was it bad? Cause I don’t want to get all involved in the story and then be disappointed cause important parts are missing. But I’m going to read this one very soon! Danny! YAY! I have to admit, I was a little nervous because I read some not-so-wonderful reviews but yours definitely trumps them all. I sooo love a kick-ass heroine. Throw in some lovely boys and I’m totally there! Plus–novellas! I’m loving this novella trend. Like little snacks that tide you over until the meal. <3 you! I read the book last weekend after having it laying around for weeks. I should have known better. It’s so intriguing and I was finishing it one day. I loved Celaena, such a strong and adorable character. And she loves books. I’m not so sure about the love triangle but it didn’t bother me too much. The suspense/mystery part was doen very well and I can’t wait for the next book. Nimue recently posted..Random Reads July
Danny! Such a fantastic review! I was reading it and it just made me wish I had liked this one as much as you did. Normally we’re so on the same page, but for some reason I just couldn’t get into this one as much as I wanted to. I loved the idea of Celaena and her assassin-ness, but I never felt like I got to really know her. I knew she was an assassin, but that was really all. I will say by the end though, I was flipping the pages like crazy to see what happened, so I’m excited to see where things go from here!
