The Dark Heroine – Dinner With a Vampire
For lovers of Twilight and A Discovery of Witches comes a tale about the blurred lines between family, love, and loyalty from a 17-year old Oxford-bound debut author.
Do you fear me Violet Lee?
Do you know what I could do to you?A chance encounter on a deserted street plunges Violet into a world beyond her wildest imaginings-a world of elegance and beauty where aristocratic vampires live for decadent pleasures…a place from which there is no escape…
But beneath the splendor lies a darkness, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous heir to the throne, Kaspar Varn.
As Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds, they soon discover that it’s a passion that comes at a price…
Violet – wrong time, wrong place
When Violet gets confronted first with the world of Vampires, she’s frightened and scared. Even more when they kidnap her and bring her to a huge closed up Mansion outside of London. Even more, those Vampires seem to be Roayality among their kind and she’s been held captive by the King and his son… Â She’s forced to stay with them, especially after the Vampire realize how powerful her Father is. So, Violet is held captive to keep her Dad in check. When the first fear dissapears she starts getting to know the Vampires, make friends and is close to fall in love..
Edgy , Mysterious, Thrilling and Sexy Plot!
The story starts out a little slow, but when more and more mysteries are introduced I was soon captivated by the whole story. The prophecy of the Dark Heroine was incredibly fascinating and I was finding myself turning pages and pages to learn more. Even though the beginning was quite slow, it picks up pace and suddenly a lot is happening which kept me on edge and gasping.
Kasper the Prince is incredibly cocky and sexy at the same time. He’s full blood Vampire who likes blood and is not excusing himself for being who he is. I really liked that about him. But, he’s also a Jerk and the mixture sometimes was a little frustation for me. Same goes for Violet – even though I really liked this girl, sometimes her decision made me scream!
Sexy romance with .. issues!
See, here is my biggest problem with the story. While I was reading I was full captivated and loved the story so much. I rated it 4.5 right after I finished. Then, I kept thinking about the story and I realized I had soem issues. It’s not happening so often that I have to change my rating later, but here.. I must do. First of, I didn’t completely felt the romance. The more I think about it the more I was missing the real connection between them. Yes, they were hot together, but the real genuine deep connection was missing.
Also, there was one particular scene where Kasper id something I couldn’t believe he really was doing to Violet. I keept going back and forth hoping it would be a dream, but it wasn’t and I was shocked. I do not think either Violet nor us as a Reder should really forgive him so easy, yet Violet went over it pretty fast.
So, in the end my rating changed. But, there are some really strong part of the book and I know I’m going to read the next one too!
Bewitched Rating
Bottom Line
The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs had an edgy, thrilling and mysterious plot and was full of sizzling romance! I cannot wait for the next book to hear more about “The Dark Heroine” tale, even though I had some issues with Kasper and the deeper connection of the love birds!
Age Range: Even though Violet is only 17 this book should definitely be considered New Adult  /Adult. The romance is hot and sexy and some scenes are definitely very explicit!

I do the same thing with some books–I rate them higher or lower in my brain right away but then adjust it after I’ve had some time to think about it. Even though this story sounds good, I think I’m over vamps…unless it’s something completely unique that’s going to blow me away (or if it drops in my lap–then I’ll usually pick it up).

I felt really bad. Right when I finished I loved it – but then.. I thought about it and there was no way to rate it with a 4.5 when there are so much issues I had.
I still love Vampires and was excited about it! Still, I’m going to read the next one!

Uh oh Danny. I was so hoping to see a higher rating from you on this one! I’m starting it this week and I really wanted to fall madly in love with it. I’m worried about this thing that Vincent does that Violet too-easily forgives him for. I’ll have to just suck it up and dive in I guess! We can compare notes when I’m done:)

And yes… I was so excited about it and even was when I finished but then… I realized some things were missing and I couldn’t get over some things!

This sounds like something I might enjoy. I don’t mind slow starts if the story itself is good. Great review.

I just couldn’t get into this book no matter what. I really tried, but I ended up abandoning it after 150 pages — I meant to pick it up again, but I never did. And I thought Kaspar was a total ass! Maybe he gets better as the book progresses?

Yep, I get it! It really was a slow beginning but ir really picked up later. I read it one sitting since I was reading it while flying – so there was no time to stop and think.
*sigh* Kasper was a really difficult character. I was always between hating him and being fascinated by him!

I am glad you liked the book, Danny. I did not, I found it horrible and I find it disturbing that so many books now seems to convey that abuse and rape is ok. I mean how could Violet forgive this and how can a female author think it is ok to write her female lead in this way. That is beyond me.
