I’m an adult who reads and loves YA for all of the above reasons. I started reading YA because I wanted to see what my daughter was reading and find out if it was appropriate or not. Then I got hooked. I don’t feel weird reading it, but I do wonder if others think that it is weird. I always bring my daughter along to book signings, but I’m the one who is more into it.

  2. What a lovely post, Danny. I’m sorry I haven’t been commenting in such a long time. Life does get in the way. I’m hoping I can get my blogging mojo back. I’ve been reading a lot lately, which feels really good – lots of good YA and more adult than I have read lately which is actually nice for the variety. But i will always be drawn to YA for the reasons you describe.

  3. I’m in my mid twenties, and have only recently rediscovered YA. I had only been reading “literature” since high school (and even during high school really). I even thought it was a little weird adults were reading it, but to each their own. But when I joined the book blog/tube community, I saw how excited people got about YA. I started seeking out the books they were mentioning, and they made me excited too! I agree with you on all the things you said! YA books address real issues with all the emotion of youth. I wasn’t a teen that long ago and I remember how everything felt like it was the end of the world, or it was my entire world. I love revisiting that. It’s so powerful. YA is totally awesome!
