Young Adult – YA – Books with Serial Killers … *shivers*

Posted 23 October, 2014 by Danny in Blog, Danny, Discussion / 14 Comments

There’s been a time when all I read were mysteries and thrillers, but these were all Adult books! Recently, I found quite a few Young Adult books with Serial Killers that I found highly fascinating and thrilling!

Here are a few of my favourites and some I think I might have to pick up soon, I also can’t wait to hear about your recommendations!

I Hunt Killers Series by Barry Lyga

Love this series so much! It’s about a Boy who grew up with his Serial Killer of a Dad and now wants to prove to others and himself that he is NOT like his psychopath – Dad! The series is complete and I’m so going to read the last book super soon!

The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

… with a paranormal twist!

The Naturals completely surprised me by how much I loved it! It has the thrill of a serial killer, a paranormal twist and pretty amazing characters! I’m ready the second book right now, which reminded me again how much I love this series!

 Naturals Killer

The Body Finder Series by Kimberly Derting

… with a paranormal twist!

Oh this series stayed with me so long and I really loved it! and Jay is the most amazing Book Boyfriend ever. Seriously, he’s boy-next-door but completely swoon worthy! This series is complete and has some pretty thrilling serial killers that need to be hunted:)

Books I Need To Read!

Hate List Slice of Cherry  Nameofthestar

Heather is a huge fan of Maureen Johnson and loved “The Name of The Star” and… *shivers* it centres around Jack the Ripper who gives me the creeps just thinking about! And.. I’m actually super intrigued be Slice of Cheery!

Have you read any of these books above? Are there any books about Serial Killers that you loved and might recommend reading?

  1. I’ve only read The Naturals and Killer Instinct and I loved both books! 🙂 I’ve been wanting to read I Hunt Killers for so long but I don’t have a copy yet. Nice post! 🙂

  2. I actually haven’t read any of these BUT The Name of the Star and while I was completely freaked out before, during, and after reading it, it’s one of my favorite thrillers! You should definitely pick it up sometime. All of the others you have mentioned are on my TBR! Great post! 🙂

  3. The only book I’ve read from your list is I Hunt Killers, and it just left me cold. I know lots of people have loved this book and series – it sounds like the final book is brilliant – and I kinda wish I could have loved it too, but I just didn’t. I hope the final book lives up to your expectations.

I hadn’t heard of The Name of the Star before, but from what you’ve said it sounds intriguing so I’m going to have to check it out. Thanks for sharing the list.

I just know about The Name of the Star because Heather loves Maurreen Johnson so much! Also I have seen Maureen speak at the Blogger Con last year and she’s amazing, just for this I think I’d need to read this book!

  4. Oooh, I LOVE the I Hunt Killers series… so good! Another one to add to the list that I just read is Melissa Marr’s Made for You, which is especially creepy because some of the chapters are told from the killer’s perspective. It was great!

If you love the “boy raised by a killer” you will also love The Naturals, there is also such a boy. I really really love this series, it’s two books and I think it’s great!

Oh you’ve read The Hate List? I’m a little scared of this one, but it’s definitely on my list!

  6. Oh, this is a great list! I haven’t heard of any of these titles, but they’re definitely going on my “Must Read” list!
I’ve always loved movies and “adult” thrillers with serial killer plotlines… very cool that there’s this whole section of YA I hardly knew existed.

  7. I really enjoyed The Naturals! And I’ve wanted to read The Name of the Star for AGES, but I kind of keep forgetting it exists. Oops? In one of my lit classes in high school, my best friend and I actually did an entire project on serial killers. I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I find them really interesting? And when it’s infused with YA and done well, it can make SUCH a great novel.
