Playing off the theme that a picture’s worth a thousand words, Picture This is a post that deals with the visual behind the books we love. In these posts we’ll share an image or two, talk about why we shared them and then we’ll leave the floor open to you to share your thoughts! So, without further ado, this post’s Picture This theme is….
Abandoned Amusement Parks
I’ve been reading J.L. Bryan’s fantastically scary and intense new horror novel this week, Inferno Park. The story features a sinister amusement park that was abandoned after a giant sink hole opened up five years earlier, killing a hundred fun-seekers in the process. The author has based the park off of his childhood experiences and love of these beach side resorts like the Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Panama City Beach, Florida, and the book really comes to life that much more for it.
Once I started looking into pictures of these old amusement parks, I certainly fell down a hole of amazingly haunting sights. It’s certainly a lesson of how quickly Mother Nature comes back to reclaim the earth. There are so many abandoned places, whether they were open and enjoyed by people for decades or just a couple of days like the one that happened to open up near Chernobyl right before the accident. You can find many websites, Tumblr’s, and Pinterest boards dedicated to these decaying landmarks.
Seriously–check out this book. It’s J.L. Bryan’s scariest and most sinister one yet.

You know, I put it on my bucket list last year to visit at least one abandoned amusement park! I would be 100% freaked out, but I think it was be an awesome experience and great photo opportunity!
I had NO idea about this book, but it’s totally on my TBR now! Like, in the very, very near future! 😀

It would be really neat to visit one of these places. Definitely photo-worthy. I’m glad you’ll be checking Inferno Park out. I finished it up today, and it’s my favorite book of J.L Bryan’s to date.

If you’re not into horror, Inferno Park might not be for you, but it is an excellent book. The photos of these places are amazing.

It’s really kind of amazing that there are so many abandoned amusement parks. And, seriously, they’re creepy as all get-out. *shudders* A great setting, though!

Wow…super creepy. My favorite things…amusement parks and creepy! I love the bottom pic. You just expect zombies to start stumbling from the misty loops. I have to check out this book! So excited to read it!
