Super SixĀ Books That I’d Wait In Line For At BEA This Year (If I Was Going…)

I have to sit out BEA this year again, but I’ll be sending a few requests along with Danny. Hopefully she can snag me a book or two when she’s at BEA this year. If I were to go to the Javits Center, I’d be sure to try to get these six books.

The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.Ā

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worseā€”her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.Ā

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn’t mean he can change his fateā€¦no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn’t: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in betweenā€¦

Expected Publication Date: August 26, 2014 by Harlequin

I’ve been a huge fan of Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, and I can’t wait to see what she does with an entirely new world. I’ve definitely preordered my copy!Ā (Goodreads/ Amazon)

gloryobrien

Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future by A.S. King

WOULD YOU TRY TO CHANGE THE WORLD
IF YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD NO FUTURE?

Graduating from high school is a time of limitless possibilitiesā€”but not for Glory, who has no plan for what’s next. Her mother committed suicide when Glory was only four years old, and sheā€™s never stopped wondering if she will eventually go the same way…until a transformative night when she begins to experience an astonishing new power to see a personā€™s infinite past and future. From ancient ancestors to many generations forward, Glory is bombarded with visionsā€”and what she sees ahead of her is terrifying.

A tyrannical new leader raises an army. Womenā€™s rights disappear. A violent second civil war breaks out. And young girls vanish daily, sold off or interned in camps. Glory makes it her mission to record everything she sees, hoping her notes will somehow make a difference. She may not see a future for herself, but sheā€™ll do everything in her power to make sure this one doesnā€™t come to pass.

In this masterpiece about freedom, feminism, and destiny, Printz Honor author A.S. King tells the epic story of a girl coping with devastating loss at long lastā€”a girl who has no idea that the future needs her, and that the present needs her even more.

Expected Publication Date:Ā October 14th 2014 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

I first encountered the magic that is A.S. King when I listened to her book, Reality Boy.Ā I definitely can’t wait to dig into what promises to be an interesting book. (Goodreads / Amazon)Ā

brokenmonsters

Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes

In the city thatā€™s become a symbol for the death of the American dream, a nightmare killer is unravelling reality. The new thriller from Lauren Beukes, author of The Shining Girls.

Broken city, broken dreams

In Detroit, violent death ā€“ along with foreclosure and despair ā€“ is a regular occurrence. But the part-human, part-animal corpses that have started appearing are more disturbing than anything Detective Gabriella Versado has ever seen.

As Gabriella works the case, her teenage daughter Layla embarks on a secret crime-fighting project of her own ā€“ hunting down online paedophiles ā€“ but it all goes horribly wrongā€¦

TK has learned how to make being homeless work for him and his friends, but something evil is threatening the fragile world heā€™s constructed on the streetsā€¦

Ambitious blogger Jonno is getting desperate. The big four-oh isnā€™t that far away, and heā€™s still struggling to make his mark. But then he stumbles across some unusual and macabre art, which might just be the break he needs to go viralā€¦

Broken Monsters lays bare the decaying corpse of the American Dream, and asks what weā€™d be prepared to do for fifteen minutes of fame, especially in an online world.

Expected Publication: July 31, 2014 by HarperCollins

I enjoyed Beukes’Ā The Shining GirlsĀ enough to be interested in more of her work, and this new novel certainly promises to be just as gritty and violent as it’s predecessor. (Goodreads / Amazon)

landline

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That itā€™s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply ā€” but that almost seems besides the point now.

Maybe that was always besides the point.

Two days before theyā€™re supposed to visit Nealā€™s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she canā€™t go. Sheā€™s a TV writer, and somethingā€™s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her ā€” Neal is always a little upset with Georgie ā€” but she doesnā€™t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if sheā€™s finally done it. If sheā€™s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. Itā€™s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like sheā€™s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .

Is that what sheā€™s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

Expected Publication Date:Ā July 8th, 2014 by St. Martin’s Press

I’ve been a big fan of Rainbow Rowell since her first book Attachments came out, so I’m eager to see what she’s come up with next.Ā (Goodreads / Amazon)

This book Ā sounds like a cute, fun twist on a road trip book. (Goodreads / Amazon)
